Vietnam offers a wide selection of places where biking tours can be arranged. The collection includes such places as Mai Chau valley, Tam Coc, Sapa, Bac Ha, Ha Giang, Hue, Hoian, Nha Trang and the Mekong delta.
While the central cost and the southern areas are good for road cycling, easy cycle, family biking tours, the northern Vietnam is a great destination for mountain biking.
Mai Chau
Mai Chau is about 3 hour drive from Hanoi. Located in the middle of rice field and stilt houses, the Mai Chau valley is not only a good place for trekking, but also for cycling. For those who don’t have much time, they can still go to Mai Chau and enjoy a half day easy cycle. The biking tour will take travelers from one village to another through rice fields and smiling faces. Longer bike tours in Mai Chau offer more challenges.
Sapa
Sapa is the place where a large number of both Vietnamese and foreign tourists go to for trekking through the beautiful scenery of North Vietnam’s mountains. While the town itself is not without charm, most people are drawn to the landscape surrounding it – high mountains, numerous rice paddies, bamboo forests, wild rivers and of course the large number of ethnic minority people inhabiting this area. Most of them belong to the Hmong people, but Dzao and other minorities are found as well.
Sapa is a good places for mountain biking. The bike tours can be arranged in half day, one day, two days, three days or even longer.
Bac Ha
Bac Ha is much less developed for tourism than Sapa. Bac Ha can be reached both by train and by road. The road trip takes about 8 hours. People usually take an overnight train to go to Lao Cai. The train journey takes 10 hours as well. But they can sleep on the train. The only way to reach Bac Ha from Laocai is taking a private car. Public bus is also available but hiring a private car with driver is highly recommended.
People will enjoy lots of fun thins when they do mountain biking in Bac ha.
Ha Giang
Ha Giang Province is located in the northern mountainous border area. It borders China in the north, Tuyen Quang Province in the south, Cao Bang Province in the east, and Yen Bai and Lao Cai Provinces in the west. The mountain biking tours to Ha Giang are usully provided in combination of Cao Bang, Ba Be national park or Bac Ha tours.
Cao Bang
Most of Cao Bang Province is mountainous, with only a small amount of habitable land. Much of the province is heavily forested. Cao Bang is one of top places for mountain biking in Vietnam.
