Road Bicycle from Angkor to Sihanouk Ville, Cambodia 9 Days

  • CODE: GDT1155
  • Private Tour
  • Duration: 8 - 12 days
  • Price from: Contact
  • Route: Cambodia - Siem Reap - Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville - Kampong Thom

Overview

Embark on an extraordinary 9-day Road Bicycle from Angkor to Sihanoukville tour, a meticulously designed adventure that offers a comprehensive and exhilarating journey across the heart of Cambodia. This tour is perfect for road cycling enthusiasts seeking to combine physical challenge with deep cultural immersion, as you pedal from the ancient wonders of Angkor to the tranquil beaches of the southern coast.

Your cycling odyssey typically commences near Siem Reap, the gateway to the legendary Angkor Archaeological Park. The initial days are often dedicated to exploring this UNESCO World Heritage site by road bike. You'll cycle along well-maintained roads and paths, visiting iconic temples such as the majestic Angkor Wat, the enigmatic smiling faces of Bayon Temple within Angkor Thom, and the atmospheric Ta Prohm, where jungle trees embrace ancient ruins. Cycling through the park provides a unique perspective, allowing you to absorb the historical grandeur at your own pace while avoiding the crowded tourist buses.

From Siem Reap, the route transitions south, taking you through diverse Cambodian landscapes. You'll cycle on national highways and quieter provincial roads, experiencing the vibrant tapestry of rural life. Expect to pass through endless rice paddies, traditional villages, and bustling market towns. A significant segment of the journey often includes passing through or making stops in provinces like Kampong Thom, where you might have the opportunity to explore the ancient pre-Angkorian complex of Sambo Prei Kuk – a serene and historically rich site far from the main tourist throngs.

The journey continues towards Phnom Penh, Cambodia's vibrant capital. While some tours cycle directly into the city, others might use support vehicles for city transfers to focus cycling on the more scenic rural routes around the capital, such as the Mekong Islands. After experiencing Phnom Penh's dynamic energy and historical landmarks, your route will then lead you towards the southern coast. This leg of the tour is particularly rewarding, as you cycle through provinces known for their unique industries. You'll likely pass through Kampot, famous for its world-renowned pepper plantations, and Kep, where you can witness the lively crab market and enjoy fresh seafood. The final days of cycling might include challenging but rewarding climbs, such as towards Bokor Mountain with its breathtaking coastal views, before descending towards the coast.

The ultimate destination is Sihanoukville, where your epic 9-day road cycling adventure concludes. Here, you can relax on beautiful beaches, reflect on your incredible journey, and perhaps take a well-deserved dip in the azure waters of the Gulf of Thailand. This tour is a profound exploration of Cambodia's history, culture, and natural beauty, offering an unparalleled active travel experience for discerning cyclists.

Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap
When you arrive in Siem Reap, our bicycle guide will greet you and take you to the hotel so you can check in. Tour briefing and bike fitting. Dinner is welcome.
Day 2: Complex (30km by bicycle)
Cycle through the Angkor Pass checkpoint after leaving the hotel on the main road. Riding down the shaded path, you'll start to notice the Kravan temple, also known as Banteay Kdei, and eventually come to the well-known Ta Phrom, which is surrounded by massive creepers and fig trees. Spend 45 minutes to 1 hour in Ta Phrom. According to his mother, the renowned King Jayavarvan VII ordered its construction in the twelfth century. In order to preserve the foliage of Ta Phrom and the other Angkor temples as a remembrance of how they were discovered, archaeologists chose to keep it in situ while they cleared back the jungle.Numerous trees have climbed over the temples and around the remnants, growing through them. Proceed with your riding along the short circle, past the Ta Keo temple, Chao Say Tevoda, and Tommanon, until you arrive at the city of Angkor Thom. The Terrace of Leper King, Terrace of Elephant, Baphoun, and Phimean Akas are visible there. Arrive at the Bayon Temple to begin your visit (45–1 hour). Jayavarman VII, the great king of Cambodia, constructed Angkor Thom. Encircled by a moat, the 10 square kilometer city is protected by an eight meter high wall.Located in the center of Angkor Thom, the magnificent 54-tower temple known as Bayon is a spectacular sight. When you first approach the temple, it looks like an undefined mass of grey and brown stone, but up close, you can see that each tower has the face of Avalokiteshvara carved onto it.Complete the short circuit by riding a bicycle to Angkor Wat after the visit. Make a photo stop at Angkor Thom's South Gate. Accessible across a causeway spanning the moat, with statues of gods and devils on either side. The stunning Angkor Wat from the 12th century should then be seen. It is stunning in terms of art, architecture, and visuals. Rising 65 meters above the earth, Angkor Wat is a gigantic three-tiered pyramid with five turrets like beehives atop it. Angkor Wat is a gigantic "temple mountain" built by Suryavarman II in honor of the Hindu god Vishnu. Spend the night at Siem Reap.
Day 3: Siem Reap - Kampong Thom: (Cycling 148km)
Hotel breakfast. We ride along Apsara Road today, past the Rolous Group, which are the 8th-century pre-Angkorian temples. We stop at a Khmer pagoda for water. After that, we ride to Stung and have lunch there. We take a long rest after lunch. After that, we ride to Prey Pros and stop at a coffee cafe for our last water stop. We ride our bikes directly from Prey Pros to our Kampong Thom accommodation. Swim in the pool and have fun, or schedule a massage. Overnight stay and dinner in Kampong Thom.
Day 4: Kampong Thom - Phnom Penh (164km)
Hotel breakfast. We make the water stop today when we ride to Skun Town, also called the Fried Spider Town. The people no longer check the rice field for spiders as they once did. Nowadays, the majority of them sell them alive and fried in almost every local store and eatery where we stop for a bathroom break. The route becomes busier after Skun, and we have to ride in single line. We should reach Phnom Penh before the hotel's rush hour if we maintain a decent pace. Swim and unwind in the pool. Enjoy Phnom Penh's nightlife in the evening.
Day 5: Phnom Penh City Tour (Cyclo Tour)
Hotel breakfast. We take a break today and ride the cyclo, a type of Cambodian rickshaw, to the S21 Genocide Museum. Prior to 1975, it was a high school, but the Khmer Rouge converted it into the most horrific prison. Explore the Cheung Ek Killing Field, which is situated outside of Phnom Penh. It was a Chinese graveyard until 1975. The Killing Field was thereafter transformed by KhmerRouge. Spend the night in Phnom Penh.
Day 6: Phnom Penh - Kep (154Km)
At the hotel, breakfast. Today, we ride our bikes from Phnom Penh City to Kep Town, one of Cambodia's most well-known seaside towns. Kep is a quaint and tranquil village. Phnom Sorsia Cave is the first place we visit before reaching Kep. We go to White Elephant Cave, and it's regarded as a holy hill. It features a stalagmite that resembles an elephant's head. See the stupa at the top of the hill, the brightly painted temple, and the Buddha statues to the right of the White Elephant Cave. We can see Kep's ocean scenery from that location. We ride our bikes to our hotel in Kep after the visit. Dinner at the beachside restaurant, an evening barbecue. Spend the night in Kep.
Day 7: Kep-Sihanouk Ville (127km)
At the hotel, breakfast. From the hotel, ride a bicycle to Kampot, the renowned pepper and durian town in Cambodia. At the confluence of fresh and salt water, on the Kampot River, lies the sleepy village of Kampot. We pedal towards Bokor Hill after Kampot. We are able to maintain our view of the slope to the right while we pedal. We pedal by a small finishing village in Trapaeng Ropov as we leave the hill behind. We pause in Veal Rinh for lunch. After that, ride the last part to Sihanouk Ville, where we finish and have a beach celebration. Travel to Koh Rong Sanloem Island by boat. On Koh Rong Sanloem Island, spend the night.
Day 8: Free day at Koh Rong Sanloem Island
