The capital city of Phnom Penh was once considered the loveliest city of Indochina. Despite its recent turbulent history, it still maintains considerable charm. A city tour acquaints us with some of Phnom Penh’s greatest sights. First visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Cheoung Ek Killing Field. Next the National Museum, which is dedicated exclusively to Khmer art and sculpture. We will visit the Royal palace complex for a tour of the area, however building which is home to the royal family is closed to the public. On the palace grounds stands the Silver Pagoda, the most sacred temple in the country.

After breakfast at the hotel, today we will head out of Phnom Penh city to Kratie province which is along the Mekong River. Drives through the National Road No. 6 to stop to visit the Spider Market in Skoun, and then continue to Kampong Cham Province to proceed to Krouch Chhma, Chhloung, and lunch at Kratie town.,After lunch, we continue to Prek Kampi to take the boat ride to visit the Mekong Dolphins. Return to our campsite and we drive upstream of the Mekong River to visit one of the biggest waterfalls in the world, called Sopheak MIT. Continue to drive to have lunch in Tbeng Meanchey. Drive to visit Preah Vihear temple on the top of Dangrek Mountain ranges, near the Thailand border, dinner and overnight in Sraem town.

Day 8: Saem of Preah Vihear – Koh Ker – Phnom Kulen

After breakfast, we will drive to Koh Ker which was one of the capital cities of the Khmer Empire (Angkor Period 9-15th Centuries). Koh Ker was built in the 10th century and functioned briefly as the Khmer Empire’s capital between 928 and 944 A.D. The style of the Koh Ker temple is different from any other temple in Cambodia and has more of a resemblance to the ancient pyramids of Egypt. Partially overgrown by the forest and inhabited only by birds, this temple and its surroundings are an exceptional experience. Continue to visit Peung Kamnou before the drive up to the top of Kulen Mountain. Enjoy the evening swimming in a waterfall on Kulen Hill.

Further is a visit to the surroundings of the complex including the Baphou, Elephant Terraces, Lipper King Terrace and Royal Palace Enclosure.
