Embark on an unparalleled 6-day motorcycle adventure with Golden Trail Travel, designed to unveil the majestic beauty of not one, but "Two Halong Bays" – the iconic Halong Bay itself and its equally stunning inland counterpart, Thac Ba Lake. This meticulously crafted itinerary offers a unique blend of thrilling rides, profound cultural immersion, and breathtaking natural wonders, appealing to adventurous spirits who seek an authentic and diverse exploration of Northern Vietnam. Prepare to be captivated by landscapes ranging from ancient limestone karsts emerging from emerald waters to serene lakes dotted with islands, all experienced from the saddle of your motorbike.
Your journey kicks off from the bustling capital of Hanoi, quickly transitioning into the serene, picturesque countryside that defines much of Northern Vietnam. The routes are carefully selected to provide an exhilarating yet safe riding experience, traversing a mix of well-paved roads and charming provincial routes that lead you deep into the heart of rural life. Imagine cruising through vast green rice paddies, alongside tranquil rivers, and past traditional villages where life unfolds at a gentle pace. This tour is specifically designed to take you off the beaten path, revealing hidden gems and providing a genuine connection with the local environment and its people.
The first "Halong Bay" you'll encounter is Thac Ba Lake, often referred to as "Halong Bay on land" due to its thousands of verdant islands emerging from a vast, placid reservoir. Here, you'll trade your motorbike for a traditional boat, gliding through the tranquil waters, exploring the secluded corners of this immense lake, and experiencing the unique lifestyle of the Dzao ethnic minority. An overnight stay in a local homestay offers an intimate cultural exchange, allowing you to share meals and learn about the traditions of your hosts.
The adventure continues as you ride towards the legendary Halong Bay, the second and most famous "Halong Bay" on your itinerary. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an absolute marvel, boasting thousands of limestone pillars and islets that dramatically rise from the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. Here, you'll embark on a traditional junk boat, cruising amidst the surreal seascape, kayaking into hidden lagoons, exploring ancient caves, and witnessing unforgettable sunsets over this iconic bay. The contrast between the inland "Halong Bay" of Thac Ba and the coastal grandeur of Halong Bay provides an incredibly rich and varied experience.
Throughout the 6 days, you’ll not only witness spectacular scenery but also engage with the vibrant local cultures, taste authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and create lasting memories. Golden Trail Travel ensures your safety and comfort with experienced local guides, whether you choose to ride your own bike or prefer the ease of an "easy rider" with a skilled chauffeur. This "Two Halong Bays" tour promises an unparalleled exploration of Vietnam's diverse natural beauty and rich heritage, delivering an adventure that transcends the ordinary

Today is the first day of this two Halong Bays in 6 days motorbike tour. Before starting to ride, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. We start around 9.30am after the rush hour.
Once out of the Red River Delta, which brims with traditional farming activity, we pass through limestone monoliths and into foothills populated by Muong people. We head straight at the main range before breaching a high and beautiful forested pass, which descends into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.
The valley of Mai Chau lies between two rivers: the Da River and the Ma River. Therefore, Mai Chau is very fertile and rich in varied landscapes, medium mountains, forest, lake, rivers, and infinitude of small footpaths and offer many possibilities of a trek. In the valley of Mai Chau and its surroundings are Muong, White Thai, H’mong (in the height), and the Dao who we meet at the markets or in their villages.
Option 1
Excursion by boat on the lake of the Black River. In fact, this is a very calm and wild cruise. Go up to the village of Man people. Mini trek to the waterfall. Then enjoy our picnic meal. Finally, come back to Mai Chau to have dinner and sleep in the stilt-house of Thai people.
Option 2
The other option is boating along the Ma River. We drive for about 45 minutes to take the boat (all day). Then have a picnic meal. Finally, come back to Mai Chau to have dinner and sleep in the stilt-house of Thai people.
Golden Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - Two Halong Bays In 6 Days Motorbike Tour. Boating in Tam Coc, the dry Halong Bay in Ninh Binh.
In general, today you take in the beautiful landscape. Bumpy road but very quiet and peaceful. We bypass the scenic Perfume Pagoda and spend the night in 2-star Van Xuan Inter-hotel Complex.
Time permitting, we propose a short ride to Hoa Lu to visit the temples of Dinh and Le King, and then hike up Yen Ngua Mountain where we could get a panoramic view of the whole region.
Alternatively, we ride on to Tam Coc and take a boat cruise on the nicked named “Halong Bay without water”. This area, in fact, is from the back of Hoa Lu to Bich Dong and Tam Coc is the best part of the karst formation.
The road between Ninh Binh and Hai Phong is under construction and early departure is recommended. Then we take a ferry to Cat Ba at 1.30 pm from Binh station and arrive in Cat Ba at 4 pm. Finally, we propose to promenade along the coast and then take a sampan to have dinner with seafood at a floating restaurant for dinner.
Breakfast at the hotel. The guide and the captain of the boat will go to a market to buy food. You can go with them if you find it interesting. Boating starts at 10 am. Then have lunch with seafood on the boat. Fishing and swimming. Visit local people in the floating village of Van Gia. Boating to Monkey Island. Dinner and sleep overnight on boat.
In fact, Cat Ba is the far end of Halong Bay. In general, Cat Ba still live from the resource that the sea offers. However, tourism is developed and of high quality. The Cat Ba Bay is a condensed of Halong Bay, its labyrinth of limestone so dense that it is difficult to imagine we are in the sea.
We created this itinerary – the floating village Van Gia. They are our personal friends and the relationship with them is intimate, even knowing that some companies now also pass through there.
Finally, yet importantly, Monkey Island (Cat Dua Islet) was totally ignored by mass tourism when we propose to stop there. It has nothing special besides the fact that there is nobody except monkeys and one family who takes care of their security.
Golden Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - Two Halong Bays In 6 Days Motorbike Tour. Boating in Halong Bay and Cat Ba.
Cruise through myriads of limestone to Halong Bay where the labyrinth of limestone so dense that it is difficult to imagine we are in the sea. We arrive at Hai Ninh restaurant to have lunch before riding back to Hanoi.
