Day 1: Hanoi – Thac Ba Lake.
Today is the first day of this amazing Northeast Vietnam Bike Loop 8 Days. Before starting to cycle, we will have a short briefing to know about the tour as well as practical information about cycling in Vietnam. If you arrive Hanoi days in advance we recommend the briefing to be organized one day in advance at our garage. After about 2 hour drive, the van will drop us off in Viet Tri where we begin our cycling adventure. In general, the road is easy and mostly sealed. Tonight we will spend the night at a local house of the Dao.
Day 2: Thac Ba Lake – Chiem Hoa.
After breakfast we say goodbye to our host and cycle to Chiem Hoa through Tuyen Quang. In general, the road is sealed all the way until Ham Yen. However, the last part from Ham Yen to Chiem Hoa is wild and little bumpy. We will be lodged in a Tay village, lost in the middle of the primitive forest.
Day 3: Chiem Hoa – Ba Be National Park.
We follow a small road which goes along the Song Gam river for about 20km, then we turn right, keep cycling on small road until we make a stop for lunch. We find the main road again when we arrive in Cho Don is a small town of Bac Kan province. The national road #254 is not much busy with traffic but part of the road is under maintenance. Either we keep cycling till Pac Ngoi or get on the van for one hour transfer. Overnight at homestay.
Day 4: Ba Be National Park – Tinh Tuc – Cao Bang.
After breakfast a short transfer takes us to our start point at Ha Hieu. From here we will cycle on dirt and paved roads to Tinh Tuc where we pause for lunch. There are two hills to conquer today, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, but both are gradual with no steep gradients. We cycle until reaching near Cao Bang City then get in the van to transfer to our hotel.
Day 5: Cao Bang – Quang Hoa.
After breakfast we start our ride from hotel. There are few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy but there are many curves. While cycling we can stop a lot. Admire stunning sightseeing, and rice paddy fields as we ride along the border belt. Altogether, with stops for drinks and food, we reach the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. Overnight at homestay.
Day 6: Quang Hoa – Ban Gioc – Quang Hoa.
Having obtained permission from the border police, we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. Weather permitting we can swim right up to where the 50 m high falls hit the river. The alternative option is taking a day trip to Na Tau village is a completely unknown area and we propose to discover it by raft and bicycle. Rivers and waterfalls everywhere are extremely beautiful and wild. Na Tau is only 15 km from Quang Hoa.
Day 7: Quang Hoa – Mau Son.
After breakfast we will bike from Quang Hoa to Lang Son on the scenic Highway 4. Then continue cycling toward the border from Lang Son to Mau Son. Mau Son is 30 km away from Lang Son, 1.541m above sea level. Quite cool in the evening! Night in the guesthouse in Mau Son Hill Station (basic accommodation). In case you want better hotel rooms, we could take the van to Lang Son city.
Day 8: Mau Son – Hanoi.
Promenade around Mau Son in the morning. Then cycle down to Lang Son to have lunch. In general, the road is asphalted all the way and it takes about 3 hours to drive back to Hanoi. Northeast Vietnam Bike Loop 8 Days is completed.
