Day 1: Hanoi – Na Khan. ~180 km, ~8 h.
Today is the first day of this North-east & Halong Bay cruise 8 days. Before starting to ride, we will have a short briefing to let you know about the rules. In addition, the guide will show you how to understand him by his body language. We start around 9.30am after the rush hours. In fact, today’s ride is quite a long ride but easy (so early departure is better) from Hanoi to Na Khan 180 km. In general, the road is sealed all the way until Bac Kan. However, the last part from Bac Kan to Na Khan is wild and little bumpy. Na Khan is a Tay village, Mr. Lo, the chief of the village will welcome us to his house.
Day 2: Na Khan – Ba Be. ~50 km, ~2 h.
A short drive from Na Khan to Ba Be on a bumpy road. Then have lunch at our captain’s house (Mr. Sao). Easy boating on the lake and river. Go to market (if it is the day you arrive). Stop at a waterfall, beautiful swim, etc. Down the waterfall, we could visit the village and a small school (only a few pupils during the summer). We propose to stay in the stilt house of our captain.Golden Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - North-east & Halong Bay cruise 8 days via Ba Be lake.
Day 3: Ba Be – Quang Hoa. ~170 km, ~8 h.
In fact, today is a beautiful ride up to Cao Bang province. There are a few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy but there are many curves. While riding we can stop a lot. Altogether, with stops for drinks and food, it should be an 8-hour journey. Then ride 1 more hour to reach the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. Spend the night at our friend’s house.
Day 4: Quang Hoa (options). ~100 km, ~2 h (~30 km, ~1 h).
Option 1Having obtained permission from the border police we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. Weather permitting we can swim right up to where the 50 m high falls hit the river.Option 2In fact, Na Tau is a completely unknown area and we propose to discover it by raft and motorbike. Rivers and waterfalls everywhere are extremely beautiful and wild. It is only 15 km from Quang Hoa. On return, we invite you for the aperitif at the village of Phuc Sen, artisan village Nung An, the owner is the brother of our host.
Day 5: Quang Hoa – Mau Son. ~160 km, ~7 h.
Ride from Quang Hoa to Lang Son. Then continue driving toward the border from Lang Son to Mau Son. Mau Son is 30 km away from Lang Son, 1.541m above sea level. Quite cool in the evening! Night in the guesthouse of Mau Son Resort.Recently, we received some complaints about room service and prostitution in Mau Son. In case you want better hotel rooms, we could stop in Lang Son city.
Day 6: Mau Son – Bai Chay. ~180 km, ~7 h.
In fact, we have a long ride mainly on a secondary road, passing many coal mines along the road. We hope you are not covered in coal dust when we arrive in Halong City (the new name of Bai Chay).
Day 7: Halong Bay cruising. Sleep on the boat.
Relax in the morning to recover from the long ride yesterday. There are two options:1. Join a group trip at noon. Depart by boat to Halong Bay, start cruise and check-in cabins. Then have lunch on the boat, enjoy a deluxe Vietnamese set menu. Transfer by tender from boat to Surprising Cave. Enjoy kayaking and swimming, or relaxing on the boat. Dinner served with Vietnamese food. Evening activities – choose from optional evening activities: enjoy movies, sing karaoke or join squid fishing with our crew (in case the weather is good).2. Book a private boat and cruise in Halong Bay. Sleep o the boat. However, this option costs extra and we will let you know the cost if you want this upgrade.Goldwn Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - North-east & Halong Bay cruise 8 days by junk boat.
Day 8: Halong – Hanoi. ~160 km, ~5 h
. End of North-east & Halong Bay Cruise 8 Days. Two options with the cruise:1. Transfer by tender from boat to Titov island, swimming or just relaxing. Then continue the cruise and refresh onboard and come back to Bai Chay. Check-out cabins and pay for your drinks. Lunch at Thang Long restaurant in Halong city (or on the boat).2. Continue cruising in Halong Bay. Lunch on boat and return at noon. In fact, this option costs extra and we will let you know the cost if you want this upgrade.Pick up the bike(s) and ride back to Hanoi on Highway 18 and then 1B.We try to arrive in Hanoi before 5pm to avoid rush hours. Otherwise, you should be good with city traffic from the experience you got over the last few days.
