Overview

Embark on a 7-Day Siem Reap Adventure: Cycling, Kulen Mountain Trekking, and Cultural Immersion

Prepare for an extraordinary and deeply enriching 7-day, 6-night adventure that takes you far beyond the typical tourist trails of Siem Reap, blending active exploration with profound cultural insights and historical discovery. Golden Trail Travel invites you on the "Explore Cycling and Kulen Mountain Trekking Tour in Siem Reap" – a meticulously crafted journey designed for intrepid travelers who seek a dynamic and authentic connection with Cambodia's vibrant landscapes, ancient heritage, and resilient people. This isn't just a tour; it's a comprehensive odyssey into the heart and soul of the Siem Reap region, revealing its hidden gems and natural wonders.

Your unforgettable Cambodian odyssey begins in the charming town of Siem Reap, the gateway to the magnificent Angkor complex. However, this tour immediately diversifies your experience, starting with an invigorating cycling expedition through the picturesque Cambodian countryside. You'll pedal along quiet rural roads and dirt paths, passing by lush rice paddies, traditional stilt houses, and vibrant local villages. This intimate perspective allows you to truly observe daily Cambodian life, wave to friendly locals, and feel the gentle breeze of the rural landscape. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for the agricultural rhythms and the simple beauty of everyday life beyond the bustling city.

A significant highlight of this adventure is the journey to the sacred Phnom Kulen (Kulen Mountain) National Park. This revered site is not only a place of immense natural beauty but also holds deep spiritual significance for Cambodians. Your adventure here will involve an exhilarating trekking experience through its verdant forests. You'll hike along winding trails, discovering hidden pagodas, ancient carvings along the "River of a Thousand Lingas," and eventually reaching the stunning Kulen Waterfall, where you can refresh yourself with a swim in its cool, sacred waters. The trek offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding plains and provides a unique combination of spiritual tranquility and natural exploration.

Beyond the active pursuits, this tour ensures deep cultural immersion. You'll engage with local communities during your cycling segments, visiting traditional villages and gaining insights into their livelihoods, customs, and daily routines. While the iconic Angkor Complex is the heart of the region, this tour offers a fresh perspective, allowing you to explore selected temples with a focus on understanding their historical context and perhaps discovering lesser-known aspects, complementing your active adventures rather than solely focusing on a quick temple hop.

Throughout this extensive 7-day expedition, you will be accompanied by expert, English-speaking local guides from Golden Trail Travel. These guides are more than just navigators; they are cultural ambassadors, possessing intimate knowledge of Cambodia's history, diverse ethnic groups, natural environments, and the intricacies of the cycling routes and trekking trails. They will be your bridge to meaningful interactions, ensuring your safety, enriching your understanding, and revealing hidden gems along the way.

Golden Trail Travel is deeply committed to responsible and sustainable tourism. This "Explore Cycling and Kulen Mountain Trekking Tour" is designed to directly benefit the local communities you visit, providing crucial economic opportunities and supporting the preservation of their unique cultural heritage and vital natural landscapes. We ensure that your presence is positive, minimizes environmental impact, and contributes to the well-being of the people and the protection of Cambodia's precious natural heritage. Return from this journey not just with incredible photos, but with a profound sense of accomplishment, a deeper understanding of Cambodia's intertwined history and vibrant culture, and enduring memories of an active and authentic adventure.

Day 1: Siem Reap
After checking into your hotel, take a wander to the old market of Siem Reap. During the day the market sells everything from fresh fish to hardware, and of a night time the nearby streets and alleys come alive with small boutiques, galleries, cafes and bars.
Day 2: Siem Reap - Angkor Complex (50kms Cycling)

Feel your excitement build as you cycle into the Angkor Complex and be amazed by the sheer size!
Start with a visit to the South Gate of Angkor Thom where statues of the gods of good and evil line the entrance. Your next stop is the Bayon, known for the hundreds of smiling faces that grace the towers. The bas reliefs are quite impressive and tell stories of daily life and the great battles that were fought between the Khmers and ancient Thais. Pedal to Phimeanakas, shaped a bit like a pyramid with two ponds in the rear and the nearby Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper Kings. Then cycle to one of the most loved temples of all – Ta Prohm. This small crumbling temple his held together by giant tree roots giving it a magical feel.

After lunch and a well earned rest, cycle to the magnificent Angkor Wat, the world’s largest religious monument. This visually spectacular temple is a massive three-tiered pyramid, rising 65 metres from the ground and crowned by five lotus towers.

Day 3: Siem Reap - Roluos Temples - Tonle Sap (60kms Cycling)
Today there is more cycling, this time to the Roluos temples, the former ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. Explore the small temples of Bakong, Preah Ko and Lolei and then hop back on your bike and cycle to the Tonle Sap Lake. Along the way you will pass small villages and vividly green rice paddies – a portrait of rural Cambodia. Children may scamper out of houses to greet you as water buffalos wallow in muddy ponds.
Day 4: Siem Reap - Kulen Mountain - Preah Kral (25kms Trekking)
Depart early and drive to the base of Kulen Mountain for the start of your trek. Begin trekking uphill through dense forest, passing the lingas carved into the rock and waterfalls. You will enjoy great view and a well deserved lunch at a local village, before continuing to Sras Damrei and the Bat Cave. Return to Preah Kral village and enjoy dinner and stay overnight in the local monastery.
Day 5: Preah Kral - Ta Penh Village (15kms Trekking)
After breakfast and a quick good bye to the monks, you will set off on a trek through the forest to a hidden temple. Continue trekking to reach tonight’s homestay at Ta Penh Village. You will stay with a local host family in their modest home. Basic bathroom and toilet facilities are available. The village has about 200 families and the majority earn their living through agriculture
Day 6: Ta Penh Village - Preah Angthom Waterfall (19kms Trekking)
Today you will continue your trek, walking through rice fields and forest to the mountaintop temple of Kra Hom. See the reclining Buddha statue and take a few photos of the countryside below. Finally, arrive at Preah Angthom Waterfall where you will have lunch, go for a swim or just relax. Tonight’s homestay is only a short walk away.
