Day 1: Hanoi to Cao Bang & Quang Uyen (Lunch, Dinner)
Your guide will pick you up at 8:00 AM from your hotel in Hanoi. We'll head north on a scenic 5-hour drive to Cao Bang, passing through the dramatic mountain roads of Lang Son. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant in Cao Bang city, we'll embark on a rewarding trek (10-12km). This off-the-beaten-path trail takes you from Cun stream, through peaceful fields and valleys, to Phia Thap incense village. This is a traditional handicraft village famous for its handmade incense crafted by the Nung ethnic minority. Tonight, you'll immerse yourself in local culture with a home-cooked dinner and an overnight stay in a traditional stilt house of the Nung people.
Day 2: Trekking the Craft Villages of Quang Uyen (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast, we set out for a full day of trekking (15-17km) to explore the vibrant craft villages of Cao Bang. Our first stop is back at Phia Thap, where you'll learn more about the 100-year-old tradition of incense making. We then continue through picturesque fields to a village specializing in yin-yang style roof tiles. Next, we'll visit Phuc Sen forging village to witness the intricate process of forging traditional knives. A picnic lunch will be served before we head to a Nung village known for its paper-making craftsmanship. After this immersive day, we'll return to the traditional Nung house for another delicious dinner and a restful night.
Day 3: Quang Uyen to Ban Gioc Waterfall & Ba Be National Park (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast, we continue our journey from Quang Uyen, trekking through fields and hills to the magnificent Ban Gioc Waterfall. This breathtaking cascade, stretching over 300 meters, naturally divides Vietnam and China. You'll have time to enjoy the incredible atmosphere and capture some amazing photos. From the falls, we'll head to the impressive Nguom Ngao Cave. Stretching for 2,144 meters, this underground wonder is filled with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. After lunch, we drive back to Cao Bang and take the scenic "snake pass" to Ba Be National Park. Here, you'll relax and unwind at a traditional Tay homestay, enjoying an authentic home-cooked meal prepared by a local family.
Day 4: Ba Be Trek & Tham Phay Cave Expedition (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast, a 30-minute drive takes us to the start of our hike to Tham Phay Cave. The trek (12-15km) begins with a steep uphill climb into the forest, leading you to the cave's entrance. Tham Phay is a spectacular river cave with two underground tributaries and is a true adventure, offering narrow passages, deep pools, and unique geological formations. You will be provided with all necessary safety equipment, including helmets and powerful headlights, for a 5-hour exploration of this 5km deep cave system. After this unforgettable expedition, we'll return to your homestay for a well-deserved dinner and rest.
Day 5: Ba Be Lake Kayaking & Puong Cave - Return to Hanoi (Breakfast, Lunch)
We'll start our final day with a relaxing boat tour on Ba Be Lake. You'll have the option to go kayaking or swimming in the cool waters. The boat will take you past stunning karst formations and rich wildlife to the enormous Puong Cave, a massive tunnel carved through the mountain by the Nang River. After lunch in Cho Ra town, we'll begin our journey back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel around 5:30 PM. It will be time to say your goodbyes, concluding your incredible adventure.
