It has only recently been possible to travel directly from Sen Monorom to Ban Lung by vehicle and road bike. Previously it was a “goat track” and only feasible to venture by dirt bike or ox cart. Ban Lung is the capital of Ratanakiri Province and is famous for its red dirt. It is also the inspirational setting for Colonel Kurtz’s compound in the movie Apocalypse Now.

Day 5 : Ban Lung to Preah Rumkel
Preah Rumkel is a small village located near the Lao border and is situated alongside the Mekong River. The community-based homestay is close to the spectacular Mekong Rapids and if we are lucky we may see firsthand the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins.

Tbeng Meanchey is the quaint capital of Preah Vihear Province. We stay with a beautiful Khmer family at their guesthouse. Our “adopted” Cambodian mum and her two daughters are fabulous cooks and you will get to experience amazing Cambodian hospitality.

Siem Reap is the home of the number one tourist attraction in the world, Angkor Wat. It is a relatively small town bustling with tourists, nightlife, and eateries. The ride to Siem Reap from Tbeng Meanchey is picturesque with rice paddies, rural farming, and great roads.

Day 8 : Siem Reap - Angkor Temple
Spend the morning at the iconic UNESCO World Heritage-listed Angkor Wat (temple) complex. You will see and explore the ancient temples by tuk-tuk with an experienced local guide. Enjoy the afternoon off, swim, check out the markets, and have a drink in Pub Street.

Day 9 : Siem Reap to Battambang
A swift ride along the highway from Siem Reap to Cambodia’s second-largest city Battambang. Famous for its French Colonial architecture. The province is also known for producing Cambodia’s finest rice. Enjoy the afternoon by the pool and wander towards the riverfront, exploring the laneways of the old French Quarter.

Day 10 : Battambang to O’Som
Depart early morning for the mountain village of O’Som. A relatively tough day on dirt roads that ascends into the Cardamom Mountains, rewarding and well worth the effort. com is completely off the tourist trail. Wash the dust off with a well-deserved beer or two, and enjoy the local hospitality and a much cooler climate.
