Overview

Embark on an enchanting 4-day biking tour through the heart of Vietnam's Mekong Delta, a journey meticulously crafted by Golden Trail Travel that promises an authentic and unforgettable exploration of Southern Vietnam's lush landscapes and vibrant cultures. The "Biking Tour Mekong Delta - Cai Be - Tra Vinh - Can Tho" is designed for those who seek a leisurely yet deeply immersive adventure, allowing you to pedal through verdant fruit orchards, past bustling waterways, and into the charming rhythm of local life. This isn't just a cycling trip; it’s a profound opportunity to connect with the essence of the delta, where life thrives along its intricate network of rivers and canals, and every turn of the pedal reveals a new facet of Vietnamese charm and hospitality.

Your adventure begins as you arrive in Cai Be, a picturesque town that serves as the perfect gateway to the Mekong Delta. From the moment you mount your bicycle, you’ll immediately feel the tranquil pace of rural life, a refreshing contrast to any urban bustle. We’ll leave behind busy roads for quiet, winding country paths and narrow concrete lanes – ideal for biking – that meander through vast rice paddies, expansive coconut groves, and an abundance of lush fruit orchards. The flat terrain of the delta makes this tour remarkably accessible to a wide spectrum of cyclists, from casual riders and families to seasoned enthusiasts looking for a relaxed yet culturally rich experience.

Over four captivating days, our thoughtfully designed route will guide you through the very essence of the Mekong Delta. A key highlight of this journey is the opportunity to visit the lively Cai Be floating market. Here, you’ll witness a vibrant spectacle as hundreds of boats laden with fresh produce, local goods, and colorful flowers converge, creating a mesmerizing scene of commerce and community life. You'll weave through the charming chaos of this aquatic marketplace, experiencing a unique form of trade that has flourished for centuries. Beyond the market, we’ll explore local cottage industries, offering fascinating insights into traditional livelihoods. You might observe the intricate process of making coconut candy, witness the crafting of delicate rice paper, or see how traditional bricks are fired in ancient kilns. These hands-on experiences provide a genuine connection to the ingenuity and traditions of the Mekong people.

The journey then takes an intriguing turn as we cycle towards Tra Vinh, a lesser-visited gem within the delta that offers a unique cultural dimension. Tra Vinh is distinctively known for its significant Khmer population, providing a fascinating blend of Vietnamese and Cambodian influences. As you cycle through this province, you'll encounter numerous magnificent Khmer temples (wats) with their distinctive architecture, golden spires, and intricate carvings, standing as testament to the rich cultural heritage of the region. This segment of the tour offers a powerful cultural contrast and a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s diverse ethnic tapestry. The cycling here remains gentle, allowing you to fully appreciate the serene landscapes and the peaceful atmosphere of the Khmer villages.

Throughout the tour, the journey is also a profound cultural immersion. As we cycle through picturesque villages, you’ll have countless opportunities to interact with the incredibly friendly and welcoming local residents. Expect warm smiles, curious waves from children, and perhaps even invitations to share a cup of tea. We’ll spend nights in comfortable local guesthouses or carefully selected homestays, offering an authentic taste of delta life. Staying with a local family, especially in the more rural areas, provides a unique window into their daily routines, allowing you to savor delicious home-cooked Vietnamese meals and experience the renowned hospitality of the Mekong people firsthand.

The grand finale of this enriching biking trip culminates in Can Tho, the largest city in the Mekong Delta and a bustling hub of activity. Can Tho is famed for the magnificent Cai Rang floating market, often considered the largest and most vibrant floating market in the delta. You'll rise early to experience this incredible spectacle, witnessing hundreds of boats laden with produce, ranging from watermelons to durians, creating a vibrant, floating supermarket. Your bicycle will allow you to explore the city's charming riverside promenade and enjoy its lively atmosphere, offering a different pace from the quieter rural routes.

Golden Trail Travel ensures that your "Mekong Delta Biking Tour" is seamless, safe, and truly enriching. Our experienced local guides, fluent in English, possess an intimate knowledge of the region, its people, and its hidden gems. They are not just navigators but passionate storytellers, sharing insights into the delta's history, culture, and ecology. A dedicated support vehicle is always on standby, carrying luggage, providing refreshments (water, snacks, fruit), and offering a comfortable ride for tired legs whenever you need a break. We provide high-quality, well-maintained bicycles suitable for the delta's flat terrain, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable ride. Day 1: Saigon – Cai Be.
Meet up with Vietnam Cycling team at your hotel in Saigon. Transfer with bikes to Tan An. Get off and pick up bikes and enjoy the relatively easy ride on the beautiful countryside track passing through local rice paddies and orchards to Cai Be. Stop for lunch at a local food shop before we continue onto our local home stay run by a lovely retired couple, Mr and Mrs Ba. They live in a typical Mekong Delta Vietnamese house, with airy rooms and outdoor kitchen. The rest of the afternoon is free to bike the dirt paths surrounding the home stay. Dinner will be prepared by the home stay hosts.
Day 2: Cai Be – Vinh Long – Tra Vinh.
We leave the island after breakfast and enjoy a boat journey to explore floating Cai Be market out to one of the Mekong Islands. Bike along narrow country lanes, easy dirt tracks and trails. This is biking at its most glorious-through tiny orchards, witness colourful life along the riverside, pedal past picturesque delta homes, pause to chat with welcoming villagers, clack across innumerable wooden bridges. Cross a narrow canal on a local sampan, before finishing at the main ferry for a refreshing boat trip across the expansive Co Chien River. Ride a final few km to the very pretty Khmer town of Tra Vinh. There will be plenty of time to explore side tracks and trails as the cycling distance today is not far. This gives a great first impression of the ‘heart of the Mekong’. Overnight in local hotel in Tra Vinh.
Day 3: Tra Vinh – Can Tho.
We have a special ride today as much of the area is populated by Khmer people. The regional architecture is interesting and there are many Khmer temples to stop and admire en route. Cycle as much or as little as is preferred; the road is peaceful, narrow and very pretty all the way to Can Tho! Pedal to Ba Om Pond with its magnificent lotus flowers, and observe local women having their future predicted in the small temple nearby. En route, stop to visit a local Buddhist Temple School if possible. Arrive finally at Can Tho, the Mekong’s largest town located at the confluence of the Can Tho and Hau Giang rivers. Overnight in Saigon Can Tho hotel.
Day 4: Can Tho – Saigon.
Following breakfast, we spend the morning riding to Phong Dien floating market.  Weave through teeming early morning market bustle along the banks of an active riverfront. Ride on a narrow paved road to Phong Dien floating market. Absorb the sights of endless cottage industries, timber merchants, coconut shredders, small docks loading/unloading rice, tiny vibrant markets. Continue by bike on the narrow lane and loop round to the main road. Ride to O Mon or Binh Thuy.  Lunch in local restaurant in town.  Return to the hotel, check out and drive four hours back to your hotel in Saigon. Biking Mekong Delta Vietnam Cai Be Tra Vinh Can Tho 4 Days is completed.
