Day 1: Luang Prabang – Ban Na Kham – Ban Houay Tan – Ban Chan Neu – Ban Peaw
We depart from your hotel in downtown Luang Prabang. We first cycle downhill to the boat docking station to cross the Mekong River by boat to a village called Ban Xieng Man. We then cycle to Ban Na Kham known for growing sugarcane and cooking sticky rice in bamboo sticks. There is time to have a look around in the village and you may sample this snack. We continue to Ban Houay Tan (Khmu village). Lunch is prepared by our local cook. After lunch, we cycle to the surrounding area of Ban Chan Neu to see local pottery and head to Ban Peaw for the night. Approximately: 5 hours cycling / 15-20 minutes boat
Day 2: Ban Peaw – Ban Na – Ban Som Sisomphou – Ban Mok Prai – Ban Phou Luang Tai
After a delicious breakfast prepared by our local host family, we cycle through rice paddy fields to Ban Na and stop for lunch at Ban Som Sisomphou where we walk to a spot to see something that defies youth. Believe it or not, this aged mango tree is more than 500 years old! After feeling young again, we change from biking to trekking. Passing first some rice fields, we then cross a stream. Trekking for about 2½ hours will take us uphill through Ban Mok Prai (Hmong village) until we finally arrive in Ban Phou Luang Tai (Hmong village) where we will stay overnight in the village eco-lodge. Approximately: 4 hours cycling/ 2½ hours trekking
Day 3: Ban Phou Luang Tai – Ban Houay Pong – Ban Muang Kham – Luang Prabang
Following breakfast, we start our last day trek that passes the forest to Ban Houay Pong (Khmu village) to relax and have lunch at the ‘sustenance hall’ built by SNV. We then continue to Muang Kham village which produces river weed (a Luang Prabang specialty; only in the dry season). From here, we take a 20-minute boat ride back to Luang Prabang. Approximately: 3 hours trekking/ 20 minutes boating Note: In the wet season, the road can be very muddy.
