  • Private Tour
  • Duration: 1 day
  • Price from: Contact
  • Route: Cambodia - Siem Reap - Angkor Wat

Overview

Embark on an unforgettable Siem Reap Angkor Wat Bike Tour, a truly immersive and active way to explore the awe-inspiring wonders of the Angkor Archaeological Park. This tour offers a unique perspective, allowing you to bypass the typical bus routes and cycle along shaded trails and quieter pathways, experiencing the grandeur of the ancient Khmer Empire at a more intimate and engaging pace.

Your adventure begins in Siem Reap, the vibrant gateway to this historical marvel. After being equipped with comfortable bicycles, you'll set off towards the heart of the park. The beauty of exploring by bike lies in the ability to access smaller, less-traveled routes, offering glimpses of the jungle, ancient walls, and the local life surrounding the temple complex that many visitors miss.

The centerpiece of your tour will undoubtedly be the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. You’ll cycle right up to its colossal causeway, allowing you ample time to explore its intricate bas-reliefs, grand courtyards, and towering spires. Whether you choose to visit at sunrise (if it's a morning tour) or during the day, the sheer scale and architectural brilliance of Angkor Wat are truly captivating.

Beyond Angkor Wat, your cycling journey will take you deeper into the sprawling complex. You'll pedal to the ancient city of Angkor Thom, entering through its impressive gates adorned with colossal stone faces. Inside, discover the enigmatic Bayon Temple, famous for its hundreds of smiling faces that gaze out in all directions. You'll also visit other significant structures within Angkor Thom, such as the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King, imagining the grand ceremonies that once took place here. Another highlight is typically Ta Prohm, often referred to as the "Tomb Raider" temple, where massive tree roots dramatically intertwine with crumbling stone walls, creating a mystical and otherworldly atmosphere that's truly photogenic.

Throughout the tour, your knowledgeable local guide will provide fascinating historical insights, engaging stories, and cultural context, bringing the ancient ruins to life. Cycling allows for frequent stops for photos, water breaks, and deeper exploration of specific areas. This Siem Reap Angkor Wat Bike Tour is ideal for active travelers seeking a unique, eco-friendly, and profoundly memorable way to discover the timeless beauty and profound history of Cambodia's most iconic archaeological site.

What you can expect

Choose to depart either in the morning (around 7:30am) or afternoon (from 1:30pm) from your hotel in Siem Reap. Head out on bikes from this point into the direction of the Angkor temples (we recommend bringing one passport photo for the entrance pass into the temple complex).

Before reaching the main entrance into Angkor, your guide will take well-chosen paths that pass by villages that have not yet been absorbed by modern society. From the saddle of your mountain bike, this is a very nice ‘add on” to what lies ahead of you. Angkor Wat lies just a short distance away.

Arguably the largest religious building in the world, with a volume of stone equaling that of the Cheops pyramid in Egypt, Angkor Wat is unlike all the other Khmer temples in that it faces west. Its symmetrical towers are stylized on the modern Cambodian flag. Conceived by Suryavarman II, Angkor Wat took an estimated 30 years to build. The Lost City of Angkor was to remain undiscovered by Western archaeologists until the latter 19th century and ever since has continued to amaze all who see it for the first time. Neither words nor pictures do it justice. Angkor Wat is a legacy of the might that was once the Khmer Empire, a detailed history of which has been carved into the many walls of this fortified temple. The temple is accessible by a giant stone causeway across the 623 foot (190 meter) moat, itself an incredible feat of engineering, to the west face of the Wat.

After touring around this immense complex, we will cycle back via the main entrance of Angkor and return to your home away from home in Siem Reap.

This tour takes approximately 4 hours and operates both in the morning (between 7:30am and 11:30am) or in the afternoon (from 1:30am until approximately 5:30pm).
