Some of Vietnam's best cycling terrain may be found on the 15 Days - Cycling in Northeastern Vietnam itinerary. Our bicycle route stays away from Vietnam's renowned highways and sees very few visitors. With its breathtaking karstic rock formations, thatched roof stilted homes, and mountains tucked between limestone outcrops, the Vietnamese environment is truly breathtaking. Pick-up location
Most of our trips begin from our bike garage (both private and group tours), so transportation from your hotel to our bike shop (or v.v) is not included in the quote. We can arrange the service (with extra charge), and reservation needs to be made in advance.

Itinerary
Occasionally our tour itineraries are updated during the year to incorporate improvements stemming from past travelers’ comments and our own research. The information given in this itinerary may be slightly different to that in the service proposal. It’s very important that you print and review a final copy of your itinerary prior to travel. If you have any queries, please contact us.

Please note that while we operate successful cycling holidays in Vietnam throughout the year, some changes may occur in our itineraries due to inclement weather and common seasonal changes to timetables and transport routes. This can happen with little notice so please be prepared for modifications to the route. The order and timing of included activities in each location may also vary from time to time.

Price
Negotiating prices is a common practice in Vietnam, particularly in open-air markets, street shops, and rural areas. However, we are not good at bargaining and do not prefer this practice. Instead, we focus our time and efforts on tour arrangements, and our prices are fixed.

Safety
Wearing a helmet is compulsory on all our biking adventures. Our tour guide often carry first aid kit while riding. Please follow your guide while biking, and much attention is required while you cross streets.

Difficulty levels
To assist you visualize how our bike trip is difficult, we have graded our Vietnam cycling tours into three categories, easy, moderate, and challenging. We group many factors into consideration into this grading, including distant covered, terrain, altitude, and vehicle support.

Easy
Involves cycling for up to two to three hours a day at easy pace and usually, less than 3 days in duration. The cycling distances is around 15 – 30 km per day. There are likely to be no steep and sustained descents as well as demand for technical riding. We will normally ride on flat roads. Suitable for bikers who enjoy occasional weekend riding on trails at home. Push bikes are sometimes used for these itineraries.

Moderate
Involves biking for up to six hours a day at a steady pace and are usually between three to five days in duration. The cycling distance is about 35 – 55 km per day. Sometimes it can be long flat rides or medium ride with few up and downhill climbs. The support vehicle will not always be available. We will need a good level of fitness. We use either mountain bikes or road bikes for these itineraries.

Challenging
Involves biking in mountainous areas with big climbs for up to seven or eight hours a day and usually more than a week in duration. Cycling distance is about 60 – 80 km per day. There will be steep and sustained ascents and descents. The support vehicle will not always be available. These trips will provide a real sustained workout even for fit and experienced mountain bikers.

Accommodation
When cycling we mostly stay in small hotel, guesthouse or homestay. Some are more basic than others! Bear in mind that some of the places we overnight in are not on the standard tourist trail. In larger cities and towns, our hotels are generally more western style and are three or four star hotels (price option).

Camping is not available on cycling tours in Vietnam unless it is required and this should be booked months in advance. Camping is only available in a limited number of places such as Cat Ba island beach, Cuc Phuong national park…Please see the details on the quote.

Tour guide
Most of our tour guides speak English. Some other speak French. Few speak other language such as German, Russian, Spanish. All our guides have great knowledge of history, local culture, and religions of the area where you are cycling. Our guides have been trained in this field and is fully licensed in tour guiding.

Bike mechanic
We arrange a bike mechanic only for large groups or when it is required (with surcharge). When there is no mechanic, our guide will take care of problem which may occur during the bike ride.

Transportation
Depending on the nature of the tour, our cycle journeys will be accompanied by an air-conditioned car/minibus cover the larger overland sections. We often use mini bus or bus for transfer and back up (guided tours).
1 – 2 travelers: we use minivan to support and carry bikes. Sometimes we use a car for passengers and a truck for transport of the bikes.
3 – 6 people: we use one minivan for passengers and one truck for the bikes.
7 – 12 people: we use one bus (coach) for passengers and one truck for the bikes.
We provide bike rental and truck for self-guided bike tours.

We sometimes use local push-bikes (single-speed bicycles) where possible or when it is required. In this case, our cars will be arranged as follows.
1 – 2 passengers (with a tour guide): 4 seat car.
3 – 6 passengers (with a tour guide): 15/16 seat minivan.
7 – 12 passengers (with a tour guide): 29 seat coach/bus.

Bikes repairs
Basic spares and tools kit are generally carried by our guide or bike mechanic or on the support vehicle, although we can not guarantee having spares for every conceivable problem.

Food and drinks
All the meals which, are mentioned in itinerary (B=Breakfast; L=Lunch; D=Dinner), are included in the tour price. Most of meals are Vietnamese local food. Vegetarians are certainly welcome and are always accommodated, please let us know of any dietary concerns at time of booking. Beverage and alcoholic drinks are not included at mealtime or in restaurants.

Snacks and water
When we transfer, ride by minibus (no cycling day), our bottled waters are always available for you in the car/van. When we have cycling days, we will offer cold water (summer) plus fresh tropical fruits, soft drinks are also available in the car/van. Please take a look at the “Inclusions” section on our our service proposal to see whether the service is included in the price. Please note drinks are not included at mealtime or in restaurant.

Packing
Comfortable lightweight clothing in natural fabrics such as cotton is most suitable for traveling in Vietnam. The dress code is fairly casual as in most parts of the tropics but it is advisable to cover arms and legs in the evenings against biting insects. A lightweight raincoat is a good idea in the rainy season. During the winter months warm clothing is needed for visiting the north of Vietnam. Visitors should not wear shorts, short skirts or other skimpy clothing when visiting religious buildings such as pagoda, temple and shoes should be removed before entering a private home.
What you take will naturally depend upon where you are traveling and the style of journey you are undertaking, and it can often be difficult to decide what to pack. Nevertheless, the following should act as a useful checklist of essential items worth thinking about taking.

Tipping
Tipping for good services is always appreciated. It is customary, though not compulsory, to tip tour guides and drivers at the end of the tour. Hotels and station porters should also be tipped a small amount for.
We recommend about 4-6 USD/traveler/day for the tour guide, about 2-3 USD/traveler/day for the driver (or the mechanic). Of course you are free to tip more or less as you see fit, depending on your perception of service quality, the length and the difficulty of your trip.

Community
Prior to our tours, we contact and work with local community leaders to make sure we are welcome and in a manner that minimizes negative social and cultural impacts. We visit local development and community projects specific to the region, encouraging customers to donate and assist such a projects in appropriate and sustainable manner.
Where make sure that where and whenever possible our tours positively benefit the local community. We stayed at locally owned accommodation and visit cottage industries for local handicraft souvenir, generating income for local business. We often employ, hire support team such as local guide, motor-taxi drivers, cook assistants on all trips to ensure that the local community benefit not only short term but with increased employment opportunities for the future.

Day 1: Hanoi - Arrival
Greetings from Vietnam. When you arrive at Noi Bai International Airport, a driver and guide from Golden Trail Travel will meet you and take you to the hotel located in the center of Hanoi. Hanoi, the historic and vibrant capital of Vietnam, is home to some of Asia's most remarkable colonial buildings as well as a distinct old world charm. Following check-in, unwind on your own while discussing the schedule for the next few days with our guide. Take a cyclo ride through the Old Quarter's busy streets to explore Hanoi's blend of modern and historical charm. You will be greeted with a special welcome meal at a traditional Vietnamese restaurant following the trip. Day 2: Hanoi – Sapa
Sapa is Situated at an elevation of 1500 meters (4921 feet) above sea level in the isolated northwest mountains of Vietnam, Sapa is renowned for its exquisite, untamed landscape as well as its diverse cultural offerings. Known as "the Tonkinese Alps," Sapa is a breathtakingly beautiful town located in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range in northwest Vietnam, close to the Chinese border. Numerous hill tribes can be found in Sapa and the surrounding area, along with rice terraces, abundant foliage, and Fansipan, Vietnam's highest peak.We shall travel the new roadway to Lao Cai. Through the window, you can take in the breathtaking scenery of North Vietnam. Eat lunch on the way. We proceed to the border city of Lao Cai after lunch. Before climbing to Sapa Hill Station, take a brief pause to stroll around and snap pictures of the city and Boder Gate. Check in when you arrive in Sapa. eat dinner at a nearby restaurant. Day 3: Sapa – Yty
Y Ty is situated at an elevation of more than 2,000 meters, sloping back into the mountains that are covered in clouds nearly all year round. Its summit is 2,660 meters high. The sun may only shine for 12 hours of the day in one small area. The mansion in the towering skies is Y Ty, the path that leads through zigzag lines and sinks into the leaves of the forest. Is it true that many individuals get the impression that the next Y Ty will be like traveling to a another planet entirely?Eat a substantial breakfast at the hotel. We started traveling on a single track trail and asphalt road to get to Yty. Beginning at the hotel, we cycle through the catholic church and turn onto a rural road that leads to farms growing flowers and vegetables. Take in the stunning surroundings and the Fanxipang mountain range to the left. After reaching the T junction, reassemble and proceed to O Quy Ho via tarmac road riding. We keep overcoming the difficult ascent to Ban Khoang. Riding downhill to Muong Hum, you will be greeted by breathtaking scenery, a thick forest, and a charming settlement of hill tribal people. Take some time to visit Muong Hum's Sunday market. We decelerate once more to confront one further foggy pass. Riding through Den Sang, Nhieu Co san, Ngai Tro, and Y Ty while cycling demonstrates your remarkable ability to appreciate both pristine and primitive environment.Additionally, you have a great chance of seeing beautiful rice terraces on hillsides and cloud hunting.Along the route, stop and chat with interested locals. as the Yty town ship arrived. Day 4: Y Ty - Lao Cai
In the morning, enjoy pan cake with the host. We then bike from the guest house, ride through the town, and descend Ngai Thau, A lu, Ngai Tro, A Mu Sung, and Lung Po. Take a journey along the border between China and Vietnam to take in the stunning surroundings. Terraces of rice beside the road. You also spend time at Lung Po, which is the point where the Red River enters Vietnam. We ride on to Trinh Tuong Commune along the Red River, where we can see the traditional architecture of the Ha Nhi Hill tribe's home.Visit Lung Pho Commune for lunch. Day 5: Lao Cai – Bac Ha
After the filling lunch, we ride our bikes to Coc Ly along a beautiful, paved route. Along the route, you take in breathtaking scenery and unique natural features.We will spend the time to participate in the local market open every Tuesday after arriving in Cô Ly at 10 a.m. You can go to the animal area to take pictures of the buffalo, cows, dogs, cats, and other animals that are being handled, or you can make an impression on everyone at the vibrant hill tribe market with their one-of-a-kind creations. We ride on single track all the way to the Bao Nhai bridge before turning off to the town of Bac Ha.When you go to the hotel, check in and then unwind on your own. Dinner and lodging in a hotel(Optional Sunday market bike excursion to Bac Ha) When you go to LAO CAI On Sunday morning, we will alter our schedule so that you can join us for the morning market in Bac Ha rather than cycling to Cocly for the Tuesday market and then riding to Bac Ha. Day 6: Bac Ha – Coc Pai  - Hoang Su Phi – Thong Nguyen
We leave the hotel early in the morning, cycle to Lung Phing, then take a detour along a single track to Sin Man. En route, we stop for a picnic lunch. After lunch, we ride downhill to Coc Phai Town and then pass through the "Heaven Gate Pass2" before riding downhill to Hoang Su Phi Town.The view today is quite amazing and breathtaking, with H'Mong, Tay, Nung, and Dao Phu La..villages scattered with flowers.Dine and spend the night at the villages.Summary: Activity: Cycling  Accommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/DCycling distance:108Km
Day 7: Hoang Su Phi – Ha Giang
Ha Giang is the northernmost province of Vietnam, bordered by the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, and Cao Bang and sharing a 270-kilometer border with the Chinese province of Yunnan. Its 7945.8 square kilometer area is mostly made up of limestone peaks and outcrops that contribute to the creation of breathtakingly stunning vistas. Its 705,100 inhabitants, who come from 23 different ethnic groups, have developed a vibrant culture and heritage. Along with the National Rice Terrace Heritage in Mu Cang Chai, the Rice Terrace Beauty in Hoang Su Phi is listed as a National Heritage of Northeast Vietnam. Cycling on the road between Hoang Su Phi and Hagiang offers travelers one of the most breathtaking limestone mountain and rice terrace scenery. Day 8: Ha Giang – Quang Ba – Yen Minh
We leave town this morning and ride our bikes for the first 25 kilometers along a road that is largely undulating and passes through terraced rice fields. We ride for the following 25 km, passing past minority communities and up winding roads into the massive limestone mountain range with its vertical rock walls. We climb 800 meters towards the mountain road pass known as "Heaven gate 1." The people in the mountain villages we pass through, often shrouded in clouds, will greet us warmly. From the pass, we have breathtaking views all around, including the well-known scene of the Tam Son valley with the "Twin Hills" and the ability to see Quan Ba town.Lunch on the summit while taking in the gorgeous surroundings. Following lunch, we rode our bikes down to the river and continued to the Gam River till we came to another pass. The first few kilometers of our ride are uphill, followed by a roughly 10-kilometer descent and the next 10-kilometer stretch of mostly level ground. We have a strenuous ascent and descend to a height of 1.025 meters before making our last 15-kilometer descent into Yenh Minh. The local hill tribes' traditional dwellings will be open for us to view. Day 9: Yen Minh  – Lung Cu -   Dong Van 
We are having a fantastic and amazing day riding through the world-renowned Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark.After a filling breakfast at the hotel, head to the vibrant hill tribal market next door, and start cycling along Happiness Road to Dong Van. Riding your bike to the summit rewards you with stunning views of the Karsk Plateau and unspoiled environment. After making a stop to see and explore the Hmong King Palace (also known as Vuong Chi Sinh Palace), we will cycle on to the Lung Cu Pole Flag Tower. Eat lunch on the way. We continue cycling on back roads to Dong Van Town after lunch. Day 10:  Dong Van – Meo Vac – Bao Lac
Every day, the White Hmong, Tay, and Lo Lo hill tribes primarily use the market in Meo Vac's town center. Ladies clad in their vibrant traditional attire enter the town with baskets made of bamboo that are filled with vegetables and corn. Today, we travel downhill along the Gam River and a secluded mountain route to Niem Son. We cycle uphill for 5 km, then descend for 30 km on a very flat road for the next 10 miles. With its mostly limestone formations, the surrounding terrain provides a surreal view of peaks, valleys, towers, and caverns. Homes and crops appear to balance perilously on the hillsides. After a somewhat easy ascent, we make the last 30 kilometers of our journey on level ground. Along the route, we will see members of the minority communities in the area, all decked out in colorful tribal garb. Take a detour to explore the local market or the way of life of the hill tribesmen. Eat lunch on the way. Day 11: Bao Lac – Cao Bang
This is going to be our hardest cycling day so far. when we climb Pia Hoac's summit for 38 kilometers in a half-day and then travel down a paved road to Cao Bang City. While riding, we will see the breathtaking limestone mountain range and discover the unspoiled territory on the border.While traveling, have lunch. We continue on to Cao Bang city after lunch. Day 12:  Cao Bang – Tra Linh
After a filling breakfast at the hotel, we headed to Pac Po. Savor the unspoiled environment and breathtaking views as traveling through tranquil villages on a tarmac road. converse with members of the hill tribe as children travel to and from school. We continue on the newly undulating route toward Pac Po.Pac Po, the birthplace of the Vietnamese Revolution from 1930 to 1945, is revered by the Vietnamese people as the place where President Hieu Thiỿn first set foot in Vietnam after thirty years of living and working overseas.At 108 kilometers, Pac Po is situated between two major mountain ranges, a river, and a stream that share a border with China. Hochiminh made the decision to establish this location for the first Vietnamese Revolution.By visiting this historical site, tourists can learn about Hochiminh life and the Post-Vietnam Revolution.When Pac Po arrives, we take some time to honor the forerunners and Hochiminh, who rallied the Vietnamese people to vote in opposition to Japanese troops and a French military campaign in 1945 in order to achieve independence. We prepare our bike for an ascent to the Gate of Heaven after our visit. Day 13: Tra Linh – Ban Gioc

We start our new cycling adventure from the hotel and travel on a dirt road to Ban Gioc.It's a really wonderful day with lots of intriguing vistas and landscapes that we can explore.On the first stage, we ride 35 kilometers on a dirt road through charming villages, rice fields, rivers, and streams before arriving at Trung Khanh Town. After Trung Khanh arrives, reassemble and take a short break for refreshments. We carry on traveling till we leave the single track and arrive at Quay Son River. As we cycle past charming towns and rice paddies, we will cross a bamboo bridge, ride along the border belt, and take in the breathtaking scenery.Lunching at the Eco Homestay. Following lunch, we go kayaking down the Quay Son River or cycling to the Ban Gioc Waterfall. Day 14: Ban Gioc – Quang Uyen
Rise early to explore the enthralling natural surroundings and go towards the stunning Ban Gioc Water Fall. One of Vietnam's most magnificent waterfalls, Ban Gioc Water Fall shares a half river with China. return to the hotel and have a hearty breakfast. Following breakfast, we ride the new frontier road from the hotel to Quang Uyen Town, where we can see the stunning limestone mountain ranges and several hill tribal villages of the Tay and Nung hill tribes. Visit their home, engage in conversation with the villagers, or watch one of their original plays to learn more about their way of life. Eat lunch on the way. We ride the country road and undulating route to Quang Uyen Town after lunch. As soon as you get to the hotel, check in and unwind on your own.
