Day 1: - Luang Prabang Arrival.
"Sabaidee" - Welcome to magical Laos! Upon arrival at Luang Prabang International Airport, you will be picked up by Laos Travel's representative and transferred to your hotel for checking in. Enjoy a welcome drink and choose to relax or explore nearby sights on your leisure time.Positioned at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers and surrounded by verdant mountains, the ancient royal capital of Luang Prabang is considered the heart of Laotian culture and retains a unique ambiance. Day 2: - Luang Prabang – Pak Ou Caves.
Begin your discoveries with the charms of Luang Prabang with a leisurely walk around the old quarters. Starting from the vibrant morning market, then onto the charming city main street and the former King's Palace - now National Museum. After, visit Wat Xieng Thong - "the Temple of the Golden City", considered the finest temple in Laos. Then board a private boat for the Mekong River cruise to the famous Pak Ou Caves. Locally called Tam Ting, the caves are filled with thousands of gold-lacquered Buddha statues, coming in a wide range of sizes. During the cruise out, see the fishermen and local villages along the way. Day 3: - Luang Prabang – Alms Giving – Kuang Si Waterfall.
An early start provides the fantastic opportunity to witness the captivating centuries old daily tradition of the alms giving ceremony, Tak Bat. Before sunrise, hundreds of saffron-clad monks file out from the old town's 35 temples to collect their daily alms from faithful local residents.Back to the hotel for breakfast, then spend the morning exploring the area around one of Luang Prabang's most impressive and picturesque waterfalls, Kuang Si. Trek through jungle parklands to Kuang Si Bear Rescue Centre, located nearby. Established in 2003, the centre has rescued numerous bears from wildlife traffickers and traditional medicine traders. Here, you will help-out with the bears' midday scatter feed. Next, walk through the national park to the Kuang Si Waterfall, where a 60m cascade feeds into multi-tiered turquoise pools; and if you feel energetic, climb to their source and go for a swim.Enjoy a picnic lunch in the tranquil park. Afterwards, return to the town to relax or explore more of the local area independently.Meals: Breakfast.Accommodation: Hotel in Luang Prabang.
Day 4: - Luang Prabang – Fly to Vientiane.
After breakfast, you have some hours at leisure before transferring to the airport for your flight to Vientiane, South East Asia's smallest capital city. Day 5: - Vientiane – Pakse – Champassak – Wat Phou Temple.
Early morning, you will fly to Pakse to take a leisurely 3-day journey down the Mekong River in Southern Laos. The highlights are the mythical UNESCO World Heritage site of Wat Phou - considered the birthplace of Khmer architecture, the stunning Siphadon, and Pha Pheng - Southeast Asia's largest waterfalls.Up on arrival at Parkse Airport, the driver will transfer you to Champassak to board the Vat Phou Mekong boat. All meals are included on the cruise and the galley produces the finest of Laotian, Vietnamese and Thai dishes, lovingly prepared and beautifully presented.The highlight of the afternoon is the Wat Phou ruins – the majestic pre-Angkorian 10th century temple complex and the boat's namesake. You have time to visit the museum at the ruins site, walk up to the highest temple and take as many photos as you would like.As dusk falls, back to the Vat Phou boat for a chance to enjoy the tropical sunset on the deck. Day 6: - Huei Thamo – Oum Moung Temple – Khong Island.
Breakfast is on board as you set sail for the village of Tomo. This is a small village a few minutes walk away from the mysterious hidden forest temple of Oum Muong. Afterwards, rejoin the boat to continue your cruise southwards.Lunch is served on the deck, while the boat leisurely sail closer to the wild paradise known as the 4,000 Islands.Late afternoon, disembark from the boat to walk through Ban Deua Tia, a small Laotian village where the traditional way of life has not changed in centuries, you will also visit the local school and share some time with the students.Your day cruise finishes at the most northern tip of Don Khong, the largest inhabited island in the river archipelago. After dinner, the evening is yours to relax and enjoy.Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.Accommodation: on Vat Phou Cruise.
Day 7: - Don Khone – Pha Pheng Waterfall – Pakse.
While you have breakfast on the deck, the Vat Phou boat cruises down the Mekong to the small village of Ban Veuthong. Next, you'll board a small boat to meander among the 4,000 Islands to Khong Island. You will visit the old French railway, the French colonial house and walk across the bridge that links Khone and Det Islands.Enjoy a lunch at a local restaurant on Don Khone Island along the banks of the river.This afternoon, visit the Khone PhaPheng waterfalls, the "Niagara of the East".
