  • Private Tour
  • Duration: 5 - 7 days
  • Price from: Contact
  • Route: Vietnam - Ha Noi - Ha Giang

Overview

Embark on the ultimate Ha Giang Bike Loop: 5 Days, a high-intensity cycling adventure meticulously designed by Golden Trail Travel for thrill-seekers and passionate cyclists. This compact yet powerful 5-day tour from Hanoi plunges you deep into the heart of Ha Giang province, Vietnam's mesmerizing and recently more accessible northern frontier. Known for its raw, untouched beauty and diverse ethnic tapestry, Ha Giang offers an unparalleled cycling experience through some of Southeast Asia's most dramatic landscapes.

Your journey begins with a full-day comfortable transfer from the bustling energy of Hanoi, transporting you directly to Tam Son (Quan Ba) in Ha Giang province. This initial road trip allows you to witness the changing scenery and prepare for the exhilarating days ahead, settling into a cozy local guesthouse for your first night in the highlands.

The next three days are dedicated to an unforgettable cycling expedition. Starting from Quan Ba, you'll pedal through varied terrains. Expect an initial stretch of relatively flat roads before the real challenge begins: significant uphill climbs, thrilling descents, and demanding up-and-down sections as you make your way to Yen Minh. This segment provides breathtaking vistas of terraced rice fields and the unique geological formations that characterize the region.

The core of the Ha Giang Loop unfolds as you cycle from Yen Minh to Dong Van. This portion features some of the toughest and most spectacular climbs through ancient black volcanic rock, offering panoramic views and opportunities to interact with the resilient hill-tribes who call this rugged landscape home. From Dong Van, the adventure continues with an exhilarating ride towards Meo Vac, including a thrilling 17km downhill stretch after conquering the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass. Often hailed as one of the "Four Great Mountain Passes" of Vietnam, Ma Pi Leng provides absolutely dizzying views over the Nho Que River, a sight that will be etched in your memory forever.

Your final cycling day takes you from Meo Vac to Bao Lac, a journey predominantly downhill, allowing you to absorb the surreal beauty of the limestone formations that dominate the landscape with fewer strenuous climbs. This day offers a chance to reflect on the incredible journey before your full-day transfer back to Hanoi on Day 5, concluding an epic adventure.

This Ha Giang Bike Loop 5 Days tour is rated as "Challenging," involving 7-8 hours of cycling per day, covering 60-80 km through mountainous terrain with sustained ascents and descents. It's a real workout, even for fit and experienced mountain bikers, promising an immense sense of accomplishment. Golden Trail Travel ensures a seamless experience with an experienced English-speaking cycling guide, dedicated van or bus support (with truck support for larger groups), and high-quality Trek mountain bikes equipped with disc brakes. This tour is perfect for those seeking an intense, active, and culturally rich exploration of Vietnam's most remote and awe-inspiring region.

Day 1: Hanoi – Ha Giang – Quan Ba.
7:00 AM: You will be picked up by our local team at your hotel in downtown Hanoi. Enjoy a full day road trip along the national road #2 via Viet Tri, Tuyen Quang to Ha Giang province. Have some stops on the way to take picture. Enjoy beautiful scenery of lush palm forests, tea plantations and stunning valleys as you travel through Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang. Lunch will be provided in a local restaurant en route. Arrival in Ha Giang city at about 3pm, we keep driving to Quan Ba, passing through minority villages. We drive into the vast limestone mountain range with its perpendicular walls of rock. As we pass through mountain villages sometimes covered by cloud, we will receive a friendly greeting from the local communities. We reach Tam Son town, Quan Ba in the alte afternoon. Check into a local guesthouse for overnight.
Day 2: Quan Ba – Yen Minh.
Setting off this morning we head out of town cycling for the first 25km on relatively flat road through the landscape of terraced rice paddy fields. We cycle uphill for the first few km before a descent of around 10km and then relatively flat terrain for the next 10km. It’s a challenging up and down terrain to an altitude of 1.025m before we make a final descent for the last 15km into Yen Minh.
Day 3: Yen Minh – Dong Van – Meo Vac.
After breakfast we prepare for the most challenging ride as today we will have many tough climbs to reach, but views are more spectacular, as you move into a higher altitude. The first ride is from Yen Minh to Dong Van. You will climb through the black volcanic rock, where you will see various hill-tribes seeking out a living from this infertile ground. The colorful, traditional costumes of these people will help you to face the challenge of the mountains, and the views over these spectacular mountains and through the huge gorges will reward your efforts. The second ride is from Dong Van to Meo Vac. Stop in Ma Pi Leng pass for a short rest before embarking on 17km downhill ride towards the little town of Meo Vac where you will check into a local guesthouse for overnight.
Day 4: Meo Vac – Bao Lac.
Today’s ride is also long, but less challenging since we mostly cycle downhill with fewer climbs. Leaving the town of Meo Vac, we first climb for about 5km before we make a stop for rest, then make a 20km descent the follow a fairly flat road for the next 10km. The surrounding landscape with predominantly limestone formations is a surreal vista of peaks, troughs, towers and caves. There’s a relatively gentle uphill climb of 250m before you descend for the 30km along flat terrain to the small town of Bao Lac, where we finish our ride.
Day 5: Bao Lac – Hanoi.
Full day transfer from Bao Lac to Hanoi. Stops en route for lunch and refreshment. Arrival back in Hanoi late afternoon. Trip ends.
