Overview

Overview
15-day bicycle tours from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong River in Siem Reap provide adventurous travelers with an amazing opportunity to explore two intriguing Southeast Asian countries. Commence at Vietnam's "rice bowls," the Mekong Delta.
For those who wish to escape the crowds, mingle with amiable locals, take in breathtaking scenery, and wander through breathtaking rice fields, this is a truly fulfilling excursion.
We will depart from Hochiminh City (Sai Gon) and travel to Vinh Long, the home of the coconut tree and its products, and My Tho, the entrance to the Mekong delta. Take a boat ride through rural communities to gain insight into their way of life. Next, make your way to Can Tho, the Mekong Delta's western capital. Can Tho is one of Vietnam's five largest cities. It is widely recognized as the center for rice, catfish, and other agricultural products.
One of the special public events is the Cai Rang Floating Market. Cai Rang Floating Market offers the best view and environment for travelers, opening early every day. By participating in this market, you will be able to witness the variety of cultural events and productions.
We begin our pedaling journey through picturesque rice paddies, quaint towns, a bustling floating market, and the lush, natural splendor of Cambodia on paved roads and well-traveled routes. You can discover more about the dark period of Cambodian history by riding through "Killing Field."
We continue our bicycle journey through Angkor Wat, the Mother of All Temples, on lonely tracks and among enormous trees. This temple, which is thought to be the biggest religious structure in the world, is a source of power and pride for all Khmers. It is the ideal combination of symbolism and symmetry. This is the most well-known temple of Angkor, constructed in the twelfth century by King Suryavarman II. We will start to solve the mysteries of the bas-reliefs, which depict stories from the Khmer Empire and Hindu mythology, as we go around. This elaborate carving, spanning nearly a kilometer, is a contender for the title of longest continuous work of art in the world.
Next, we make our way to the inner sanctuary's higher floors. On their journey to meet the Gods, pilgrims would crouch down the very steep last stairs leading to Angkor's upper terrace. At last, the holy center of Angkor Wat, the pinnacle, comes into view. Then, in the late morning, we proceed to see Angkor Thom, the enormous walled city that was King Jayavarman VII's masterwork. Our visit starts at the Leper King's Terrace. We keep going down the Terrace of Elephants, which was once the king's observation gallery for overseeing processions, plays, and traditional athletic events. The Baphuon, one of Angkor's most exquisite temples, is located at the southernmost point and dates to the eleventh century. The mysterious and enchanted Bayon Temple serves as our finale. The four faces of Avalokiteshvara (the Buddha of Compassion) atop each of its 54 towers.

Day 1: Hochiminh Arrival
Greetings from Vietnam. When you arrive at Tan San Nhat International Airport, a driver and guide from Golden Trail Travel will meet you and take you to the hotel located in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. Known by its former name, Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is known as "the pearl of the Far East." One of the most memorable place names in Asia is undoubtedly Saigon, the biggest and busiest city in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh City has the most Western atmosphere of any Vietnamese city. Amazing contrasts can be found in this city: upscale new international hotels, upscale dining establishments, and hip clubs coexist alongside roadside noodle stands, noisy cyclo drivers, and street kids. Markets, pagodas, karaoke clubs, and golf courses compete for space with bowling alleys, shopping centers, and golf courses. The adjectives "bustling," "booming," "crowded," and "noisy" barely begin to describe Saigon's addictive and frequently captivating chaos. However, there are also the majestic French colonial boulevards and buildings, the Cathedral, the waterfront, and the peaceful times spent at a sidewalk cafe taking in the breathtaking view of the world passing by at a fast pace. When you get to the hotel, sign in and enjoy some alone time. If there is time, we will spend a half-day exploring the War Remnants Museum, the Sai Gon Central Post Office, Independence Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Ben Thanh Market. Afterward, we will head back to the hotel for a quick regroup and itinerary review before heading out to supper.Summary:Activities:Picking up and transfering to HotelAccommodation: HotelMeals: DCycling distance: No/ Transferring
Day 2: Hochiminh - Cu Chi tunnel
We departed from the busy metropolis and headed toward the Cu Chi Tunnel. We arrive at the cycling station, where our bikes are waiting for you to use them, after an hour-long transfer. Ride on single-track trails through a village where Cu Chi farmers go about their everyday lives, gathering rubber latex and manufacturing bamboo furniture and baskets. There will also be large rice-paper workshops run by rural families. From 1965 until 1975, this territory served the Viet Cong not only as a hiding place but also as a fighting and living region throughout the Vietnam War. After touring the tunnel, return to Hochiminh and have a picnic lunch. overnight in Hochiminh citySummary:Activities: Transferring and cycling to Cu Chi TunnelAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/DCycling distance: 45 Km
Day 3: Hochiminh - Cai Be - Vinh Long & Can Tho – Cruising & Cycling
After a filling breakfast at the hotel, take a leisurely one-hour transfer to Cai Be, a vibrant river market where you may take a boat ride over the Mekong Delta, see the vibrant floating market, and go to the neighboring island of Dong Phu. Here, visitors can stroll through orchards and take in the shaded surroundings while learning about the farmers' daily lives. After departing the island, you ride to Vinh Long and on through the center of the Mekong Delta, passing by innumerable rivers and canals that nourish this vibrant, fertile terrain. You arrive in Can Tho, the unofficial capital of the Mekong Delta, after a few ferry crossings, which are usually a great chance to meet the amiable locals. The rice husking mills provide a significant portion of the city's jobs in this amiable, vibrant community.Summary:Activities: Transferring and CyclingAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 80 Km
Day 4: Cruising & Cycling Can Tho -  Long Xuyen
Start early to take in the energetic outdoor activities at one of Vietnam's largest floating markets, the Hau River-Cai Rang floating market. Here, a multitude of wooden boats of various sizes will assemble to offer their items. You can get up close and personal with these floating vendors by navigating around them in your little boat, which is ideal for taking pictures and purchasing produce for yourself. Then it's back to the bikes, where you pedal past pleasant faces and vibrant greenery. The roads get narrower and there is less traffic as you move deeper into the delta. Take in the scenery as you ride by countless cottage industries, lumberjacks, shredders of coconuts, little docks where rice is loaded and unloaded, and little, lively markets. In the afternoon, you get to enjoy a leisurely ride along the Mekong through one of the most picturesque sections of the delta, passing by fish farms, traditional towns, little bridges, and a more rustic atmosphere. Long xuyen arrived. In Long Xuyen for the night.Summary:Activities:Cycling, Boat Trip  and TransferringAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 90 Km
Day 5: Cruising & Cycling from Long Xuyen – Chau Doc
The view today is entirely different from what it was yesterday. Once you make a quick transfer to Tri Ton, we start riding. As you get closer to Chau Doc, mountains start to rise in the distance. The Thot not trees suggest that the area is becoming closer to Cambodia, and the locals speak Vietnamese as a second language. You will ride a bicycle to the Vietnamese killing fields this afternoon, located in Ba Chuc. Here, nearly 3,000 Vietnamese people were slaughtered in 1978 by Polpot's regime. The route circles back to Chau Doc from Ba Chuc along the border, or depending on the state of the roads, retraces the path back to Tri Ton and then rides the remaining distance to Chau Doc along amazing rural roads. If the weather permits, those with excess energy can ascend Sam Mountain in time for sunset!Spend the night in Chau Doc after dinner.Summary:Activities: Cycling and TransferringAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 50 – 78 Km
Day 6: Cruising & Cycling from Chau Doc to Ha Tien
Another gorgeous day of our journey, we set out early to explore the magnificent riverside market with all of its bustling activity and kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and scents. The boat travels on to an ethnic Cham town with its renowned Mubarak Mosque, passing through fish farm communities where vast amounts of fish are raised in cages beneath floating homes. You can see women weaving here as well, utilizing age-old techniques. After that, you cycle along a nice route while admiring tall limestone structures in the distance, vivid green rice fields, and several bridges. As you approach Cambodia, there are lots of sights to see along the route, including the many architectural designs of ethnic Khmer dwellings and the plethora of vibrant Khmer pagodas. When you go to Ha Tien in the late afternoon, it feels like it has been neglected but yet has a certain allure with its closed terraces, deteriorating colonial buildings, and mats of seafood drying in the sun. Summary:Activities: Cycling, Boat TripAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 80 Km
Day 7: Farewell Vietnam, Hello Cambodia
You ride the short distance to the Cambodian border this morning and bid farewell to Vietnam. Riding a bicycle along peaceful coastal dirt roads through little villages and salt flats will serve as your introduction to Cambodia. Your first stop will be the seaside town of Kep, which is currently experiencing a renaissance following years of abandonment. You'll eat lunch here and maybe sample some of the delicious seafood the region is known for. You cycle the last 35 kilometers to Kampot after lunch. Unquestionably charming, the town is home to friendly locals and a peaceful, sleepy atmosphere. Many buildings from the French colonial and Chinese eras still stand, and if that weren't enough, there's a wonderful riverfront where you can watch what may be Cambodia's most breathtaking sunsets as the sun sets behind the surrounding mountains.Summary:Activities: Cycling, Immigration formalities, Accommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 72 Km
Day 8: Cycle Kampot to Takeo
Following a filling breakfast at the resort, we head out on our bikes to pedal through breathtaking scenery of limestone karst, charming villages with some ethnic Cham populations, and endless rice fields. As a little provincial capital consisting mostly of buildings housing local government departments, Takeo has little to brag about. On the other hand, the waterfront promenade offers a lovely stroll in the late afternoon as the sun sets, and there are several historic colonial villas in various states surrounding the market area. A true flavor of rural, unspoiled Cambodia, far from the tourist path!.Summary:Activities: Cycling  from Hotel - hotelAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 80 Km
Day 9: Cycle Takeo to Phnom Penh
To get pictures of the unspoiled natural world, get an early start. You spin north out of Takeo, passing through even more endless rice paddies. You eventually leave the main road to visit Tonle Bati, a riverbank setting where you have time to examine the little but charming Ta Prohm and Yeay Peau Angkorian temples. After that, you'll try to stay off the "main" route as much as you can and stop at the "Killing Fields" when you get to Phnom Penh's outskirts. This place, which is now a memorial situated in a lovely serene landscape, is where Khmer Rouge detainees were executed after being forcibly marched from the Toul Sleng jail in the city center. After giving it some thought, you have the option of taking the support vehicle or navigating the rush-hour traffic into the center of Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia.Summary:Activities:Cycling and TransferringAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 90 km
Day 10: Phnom Penh City Cyclo Tour
As you have an enjoyable cyclo tour—a traditional form Cambodian transportation—on your first morning in lovely Phnom Penh, you may be happy to learn that today is someone else's turn to pedal. The National Museum, with its extensive collection of Khmer artifacts housed in a picturesque setting, is the first place you'll see. It is terracotta red. You will next travel to the adjacent Royal Palace, which is located on the banks of the enormous Mekong river. The Throne Hall, the Chan Chaya Pavilion, and the King's living quarters are all located inside the Palace walls. Next, you will proceed to the nearby Silver Pagoda, which gets its name from a rumor that its floor is composed of more than 4,000 silver tiles! Following lunch, return to the cyclos and ride through the streets of Phnom Penh to the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum (also known as S21). This notorious Khmer Rouge prison and torture center was, paradoxically, once a school and is situated in a tranquil suburb of the city. After that, you'll go to the Russian Market, which is a great spot to buy trinkets.Summary:Activities:Transferring and visiting Phnom Penh landmarksAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: No
Day 11: Phnom Penh to Kompong Cham
This morning, you leave the congested streets of Phnom Penh behind and travel 40 kilometers before leaving the main road to enjoy a shaded ride along the Mekong River's path along a partly unpaved and occasionally uneven route leading to the village of Kompong Cham. As you cycle through the numerous traditional villages, you will see people going about their daily lives—cooking, cleaning, playing, leading the cows to the river, cycling schoolchildren, pagodas & monks, and the sun-drying of bright red chilies, pepper, rice, and fish by the side of the road. Of course, there will also be the constant stream of life on the mighty Mekong. Expect a few surprised faces along the way. There are several cool, shaded, picturesque places to take a breather where you can be sure that the interested residents will want to say "Hello." Many buildings and trader store fronts with French influences can still be found in Kompong Cham; despite their frequent state of disrepair, they still have an air of austerity and grace that sets them apart from the more contemporary structures that usually surround them. Because of its compact size, you may easily tour it on foot, as you are.Summary:Activities: Transferring and CyclingAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance:  79 Km
Day 12: Kompong Cham, Beng Mealea & Siem Reap
This morning, head off early as you head out of Kompong Cham. You'll soon pull off the main highway and head up a route that passes through shaded rubber plantations and gradually climbs. You rejoin the main route at the small town of Prey Thom Tratrav, which is 75 kilometers away. You will then drive 150 miles to the market town of Dom Dek in the backup vehicle. Remounting your bikes at this point will allow you to cycle the remaining 30km to the Beng Mealea temple, which is a remarkably atmospheric experience. The temple, which was just recently rediscovered, is mostly covered in vegetation due to nature's ravenous appetite. Despite the stone towers and galleries being partially destroyed, the trees that have grown through them provide a nice, shaded area to hang out.You have the feeling of a real adventurer as you explore! You then take a car to Siem Reap, where you check into your accommodation.Summary:Activities: Cycling and TransferringAccommodation: HotelMeals: B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 90 Km
Day 13: Exploring the Magnificent Angkor Temples by Bike
You start your bicycle tour of the amazing Angkor temples this morning. Focusing today on the Small Circuit, which is home to iconic temples like the Takeo pyramid, the jungle-clad Ta Prohm made famous by the Hollywood blockbuster "Tomb Raider," Sras Srang, also known as the King's Bathing Pond, and the magnificent Royal City of Angkor Thom, which is home to the Bayon, a temple renowned for its numerous enormous carved faces smiling enticingly down at you. You will also tour other significant locations within this massive walled city. It's time to tackle the magnificent Angkor Wat, the biggest religious structure in the world, after lunch. You will be drawn to it by its sheer magnitude at first, but you will soon become enthralled with its architecture and finely crafted bas-reliefs as you investigate more closely. You have free time to explore Siem Reap's vibrant nightlife, which includes a wide variety of excellent restaurants and exciting pubs, after you get back to the hotel.Summary:Activities: Cycling from Hotel - HotelAccommodation: HotelMeals:B/L/ D    Cycling distance: 45 Km
Day 14: Cycling to Beautiful Banteay Srei Temple
You pedal northward toward Banteay Srei today. The lovely Cambodian countryside and its amiable inhabitants make this bike journey an absolute treat. We will make stops at a few communities along the way to have a better look at the wooden stilts dwellings and daily life. Large black pots filled with a thick, light brown boiling liquid are a common sight in people's gardens. This region is also known for its sugar palm tree sweets, which are guaranteed to provide any cyclist with a much-needed energy boost! You will be astounded by Banteay Srei's exquisite beauty as soon as you arrive. It's a beautifully adorned temple with themes from the Ramayana and floral designs carved from pink sandstone. Because the intricacy is too delicate for a man's hands, it is thought that women must have carved the images. After lunch at a neighborhood eatery, you'll cycle back towards Siem Reap and, depending on time, visit some of the temples along the Grand Circuit, including Banteay Kdei, Neak Pean, which is surrounded by ponds and fountains, and Preah Khan, also known as "Sacred Sword," one of the largest temples in Angkor. You're going to enjoy dinner this evening together with a captivating Apsara dance show.Summary:Activities: Cycling to visit Angkor complexAccommodation: HotelMeals:B/L/ DCycling distance: 45 – 80 Km
