Day 1: Arrival Datong

Arrive in Datong, you will be greeted at the train station by your tour guide and transferred to hotel. In ancient China, Datong was a place of strategic importance and a place where the Han people frequently exchanged with the ethnic minority peoples in north China.

Day 2: Datong

Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Monastery, Nine Dragon Wall
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, firstly drive you to the magnificent Yungang Grottoes (1.5 - 2 hours) - with 53 caves containing over 51,000 stone carvings of Buddha and Buddhist. And then, drive back to Datong downtown for a visit to  Huayan Monastery (1 hour) - the largest and best preserved monastery of the Liao Dynasty. Then a short stop in Nine Dragon Wall (10 min) - the oldest and largest glazed screen in China. After that, drive you back to the hotel and have a rest of this day.

? At present in Yungang Grottoes, only 45 caves are open to the public. And the former 20 caves are mainly ones for tourists to visit.
? It is forbidden to take photos when visiting insides the cave.

Day 3: Datong - Mt Wutai

Hanging Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Drive to Mt. Wutai

Hotel accommdation: In Mt. Wutai
Today, leave Datong you will first take 1 hour driving to Hunyuan County for a visit to the Hanging Temple (1 hour) - the masterpiece of ancient wooden constructions. After nother 1-hour driving, have a stop to visit Yingxian Wooden Pagoda (1 hour) - regarded as one of the three pagodas in the World. And then, have a 3.5-hour driving to Mt. Wutai. Upon arrival, drive you to the hotel and have a rest of this day.

Today after breakfast, we will have a sightseeing tour of Mt. Wutai Scenic Area - one of the four holy Buddhist Mountains in China, visiting some temples in Taihuai Town to appreciate the architectural values. After that, be transferred back to Datong City.
