Overview

Embark on an enriching 9-day Vietnam Southern Bird Watching Tour with Golden Trail Travel, an expertly crafted expedition designed to showcase the diverse and fascinating avian life of Southern Vietnam's most important birding destinations. This immersive journey takes you from the biodiverse lowland forests of Cat Tien National Park to the cooler, endemic-rich montane plateaus of Di Linh and Da Lat, promising an unforgettable experience for both seasoned birdwatchers and nature photographers. Prepare to encounter a remarkable array of Vietnam's most sought-after endemic, near-endemic, and rare bird species, all set against a backdrop of stunning natural landscapes.

Your exciting birding adventure begins on Day 1 with a direct transfer from Ho Chi Minh City to the renowned Cat Tien National Park. This crucial lowland tropical forest will be your primary focus for the next two full days (Days 2 & 3). Cat Tien is a gem for birders, offering an incredible opportunity to seek out iconic species such as the elusive Orange-necked Partridge, the magnificent Germain's Peacock-Pheasant, the vibrant Green Peafowl, and the striking Siamese Fireback. Beyond these, you'll also look for various woodpeckers, broadbills (like the Dusky Broadbill), and pittas (such as the Blue-rumped Pitta). Our expert local guides will lead you through prime birding trails and to strategically located hides, maximizing your chances for close encounters and stunning photographic opportunities with these elusive forest inhabitants.

On Day 4, we journey from the dense lowland forests of Cat Tien to Di Linh, a strategic stopover as we ascend into the Central Highlands. Di Linh offers excellent birding along its forested roads and nearby coffee plantations, providing a chance to encounter a different set of species as the elevation gradually changes. This transition zone is often productive for various cuckooshrikes, leafbirds, and sunbirds.

Day 5 takes us further into the heart of the Central Highlands, arriving in the charming city of Da Lat. Often referred to as the "City of Eternal Spring," Da Lat and its surrounding areas, including Bi Doup-Nui Ba National Park, are a designated Endemic Bird Area (EBA) and will serve as our base for three dedicated days of intensive birding (Days 6, 7 & 8). Here, we will meticulously search for several highly localized and iconic endemics, including the distinctive Grey-crowned Crocias, the vibrant Collared Laughingthrush, the striking Orange-breasted Laughingthrush, the elusive Vietnamese Greenfinch, and the charming Black-crowned Fulvetta. We will explore various habitats, from pine forests to broadleaf woodlands, ensuring comprehensive coverage of this incredibly rich montane avifauna. The pristine nature of Bi Doup National Park offers particularly rewarding birding for these specialists.

Finally, on Day 9, we conclude our remarkable Vietnam Southern Bird Watching Tour with a transfer from Da Lat back to Ho Chi Minh City, ensuring a comfortable connection for your onward travel. This 9-day expedition with Golden Trail Travel provides an immersive and highly rewarding journey through the most significant birding sites of Southern Vietnam, promising an extensive species list and a wealth of cherished memories for every passionate birder.
