Overview

The two greatest places in Vietnam for birdwatching are Cat Tien National Park and Da Lat Plateau. The ideal route to look for endemic species in the south is the one listed below, although you can alter it to suit your group, your interests, and, if you'd like, to include certain target birds. You will see several more bird species if you remain an extra night in Di Linh and another night in Cat Tien, if you have the time. If preferred, the route can also be completed in reverse. Inquire with us for further travel alternatives.

Day 1: Ho Chi Minh city to Cat Tien (L, D)
Early morning airport pickup in Sai Gon, followed by a 3.5-hour journey to Cat Tien National Park. We will leave Sai Gon this morning and travel north to Cat Tien National Park, where we will start our afternoon exploration of this amazing area.
Day 2: Cat Tien National Park (B, L, D)
We have a long list of target birds, including Germain's Peacock Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Green Peafowl, Wreathed Hornbill, Lesser Adjutant, Woolly-necked Stork, Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied Pittas, and many other widespread species like Doves, Bulbuls, Purple Swamphen, White-breasted Waterhen, Kingfishers, etc., that we hope to see today as we travel to Crocodile Lake in jeeps. We will birdwatch for Grey-faced Tit Babblers, Woodpeckers, Green Pigeons, and Nighjars around the park headquarters later in the afternoon.
Day 3: Cat Tien National Park (B, L, D)
In order to locate Pale-headed and Black-and-Buff Woodpeckers as well as Black-and-red, Banded, and Dusky broadbills, we will take a morning jeep journey to Heaven Rapids. In the afternoon, we can visit a grassland habitat by foot or by jeep to witness the Indochinese Green Peafowl and many other widely distributed species.
Day 4: Cat Tien to Da Lat (B, L, D)
We will drive north through densely farmed lowlands after birdwatching at Cat Tien early in the morning. Afterward, we will ascend onto the Lang Bian Plateau and visit the quaint village of Da Lat. Along the route, we will pause at various interesting-looking spots, including some extremely stunning waterfalls. Situated at 4,900 feet (1,500 meters) in a temperate environment filled with lakes and waterfalls and surrounded by evergreen woods, including numerous native pine woodlands, Da Lat is a hill resort that is maybe the most gorgeous big town in Vietnam.
Day s 5 & 6: Da Lat Plateau Endemic Bird Area (B, L, D)
A two-day excursion of the Da Lat plateau. The first place we visit is Ta Nung, a little, privately owned evergreen forest that is the closest place to see the endangered Grey-crowned Crocias. This area is also home to several highly sought-after indigenous species, such as the Vietnamese Greenfinch, Vietnamese Cutia, and Orange-breasted and Black-hooded Laughingthrushes. We will travel to Langbian Mountain, a high peak at 2,169 meters (7,100 feet) above sea level, on the second day. The stunning and cunning endemic Collared Laughingthrush is one of Vietnam's most sought-after species, and it lives in this woodland. The common endemic among our other target species, which include Vietnamese Cutia, Yellow-billed Nuthatch, Wintering Mugimaki Flycatcher, Grey-crowned Tit (Black-throated Tit), and Yellow-cheeked Tit, is the Black-crowned Fulvetta (which recently split from Rufous-winged Fulvetta).
Day 7: Da Lat to Ho Chi Minh city (B, L)
Tuyen Lam Lake is the third stop on our tour of the Da Lat Plateau. We will search for Red Crossbill, Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Slender-billed Oriole, Yellow-billed Nuthatch, and Burmese Shrike this morning. We will drive back to Sai Gon later this morning, where the tour comes to a close.
