GOLF LIST:
Vietnam Golf & Country Club
Open since November 1995, the 7,106-yard West Course at Vietnam Golf & Country Club features narrow tree-lined fairways and fast level greens. The par-72 championship course was Taiwanese designed and hosted the Vietnam Open Asian PGA Tour events in both 1995 and 1997.
The course winds its way through mostly oil palm trees offering challenging tee shots to narrow landing areas. Several holes also feature a lone tree in the center of the fairway. Bermuda Tifeagle greens provide beautiful putting surfaces all year round. The West Course’s difficulty lies in its championship length. Only single-digit handicap players should play off the back tees. Even from the regular men's tees, this course can provide a very long afternoon of golf, especially if drives are not on target.
One of the best holes is 11th. It's a long 408 yard par-4, dogleg to the left. The tee shot must carry over trees on the left to have sight of the green. A large tree on the center of the fairway and bunkers on both sides of the green come into play on the second shot. The slightly elevated green is shallow and wide, so an approach shot must have some spin on it to hold the green.
The second course at Vietnam Golf & Country Club is the 6,946-yard East Course. Designed by Lee Trevino and opened in 1997, the East Course offers more generous fairways than the West Course but includes 110 well-positioned bunkers, water hazards, and undulating fast-rolling Bermuda Tifdwarf greens. The layout is so challenging even a seasoned tour pro will think twice before 'going for it.' The East Course’s undulating greens are the undoing of many an unsuspecting player. Golfers must play smart and set-up good approach shots to give relatively straight putts - which is something more comfortable said than done on these greens. Many a side bet have been won or lost due to the putting skills of the golfer.
FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links
FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links offers 36-holes of championship golf that includes the Nicklaus designed Ocean Course, and the Schmidt Curley designed Mountain Course;. Each offers its style and challenges. The entire facility is part of a massive seaside resort complex located 45 minutes from the Quy Nhon airport and 30 minutes from Quy Nhon town itself.
The South China Sea is in clear view everywhere on the Ocean Course. Dunes frame most of the holes providing a golf style more similar to the links courses in Australia’s sandbelt than many of the layouts found elsewhere in Asia. Scrubby pines and waste areas throughout the site add to the golfing experience at Quy Nhon.
The 7,273 yard, par-72 Nicklaus designed Ocean Course is as challenging as any in Vietnam, if not all Asia. Extremely tight fairways and small landing areas put a premium on driving accuracy. Keep out of the pine straw waste areas, and low scores are typical on most holes. Stray off the fairway and a double bogey or worse is almost guaranteed.
Course highlights include the closing stretch of holes thirteen to eighteen which play right along the Vietnamese coastline tracking the South China Sea. The par-3 sixteenth is dozy with natural waste areas surrounding forming a 360-degree ring around the smallish green. The 569-yard par-5 seventeenth is also one of the best. An accurate tee shot to a bisecting fairway is needed to avoid deep heather rough areas. Standing on the golfer is perplexed about how much to yardage cut off using a driver and set up a birdie chance or take the safe route and lay back to settle for par with a fairway wood. Either way, it’s not as easy as the shot into the green is over a broad ridge is entirely blind. The only savings is that most shots clearing the ridge funnel into the stadium shaped green. Finish with a par on the eighteen, and you will come off the course with a sense of accomplishment.
Twin Doves Golf Club
The Mare Course is more natural with all holes flanked by creeks and trees. Fairways are narrow, and accurate shot making is critical to score well. Most of the greens are multi-tiered and guarded by water hazards, making shot accuracy once again paramount to a good score. The Mare Course is the most exciting of the 3 nines.
The Sole Course features island green, beach bunkers, and plays around a blue lake. This makes the nine both visually appealing and challenging. Also unique to this nine is the presence of seven par-4’s and only one each, par-3 and par-5. Most golfers prefer to avoid the Sole Curse for this unconventional routing. In any case, this nine is still attractive with a series of natural water hazards and challenges.
As expected of a private members club the Twin Doves facilities are all 5-star. Locker rooms, practice areas, and probably the best pro-shop in Saigon all enhance the enjoyment of golf at twin Doves. The international restaurant serves a variety Vietnamese, Asian, and Western fare but specializes in Korean dishes for most of the membership. Open air overlooking the golf course as well as air-conditioned dining options are provided to ensure enjoyment by all visiting Saigon golfers.
Good weekday tee time availability and reasonable green fees make Twin Doves a logical choice for Ho Chi Minh City golf packages.
Diamond Bay Golf & Villas
iamond Bay Golf & Villas is a 7244-yard championship layout golf course designed by American golf course developer and architecture Andy Dye. Diamond Bay has a natural habitat playing beside the Nha Trang coastline. The course is easily reached from both Nha Trang City and airport in less than 15 minutes.
The Diamond Bay golf course is set on 76 hectares and nestled naturally in between the mountains and sea. Natural marshes, majestic pines, and sandy dunes contrast sharply with the lush fairways. Platinum TE Paspalum grass, white sand bunkers and incredible views of Nha Trang Bay create stunning color contrasts on every hole. Early morning golfers can further enjoy the beauty of the fog-clad mountains in the distance.
With its unique scenery, Diamond Bay Golf & Villas is one of the genuinely fascinating Vietnam golf courses. Platinum TE Paspalum grassed from tee to greens makes for excellent hitting surfaces throughout the golf course. The signature par-3 hole 12 is nicknamed the “smiling hole” as it has been built over the sea and resembles a smiling face. Hole 18 is also an excellent finishing hole that requires three accurate shots reach the green in regulation on this 546 yard par-5.
The clubhouse and associated resort are adequate with facilities and amenities that golfers expect and appreciate.
Vinpearl Golf Club
Vinpearl Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-71 layout of 6,787 yards. The golf course is part of the Vinpearl Resort set on Hon Tre Island in a private cove of Nha Trang Bay. Forbes Magazine rates the area as one of the most beautiful bays in the world, and Vinpearl Golf Club offers a spectacular bay view from most holes on the course. It takes one hour by combined car and boat from Nha Trang’s Cam Ranh Airport to reach Vinpearl Golf Club.
IMG Worldwide, a global leader in golf course design, has made great use of the natural beauty mapping an impressive layout along the 800-meter beach and throughout the valley. Each hole is a unique challenge creating unmatched satisfaction and memorable experience for the golfer.
Some of the most memorable holes include the long 460-yard par-4 forth and the beautiful par-3 16th that plays with the South China Sea in the backdrop. The eighteenth is a brutal uphill walk, so have some extra charge in the batteries to make it to the end without resorting to walking.
The 300-yard driving range with all grass teeing area, including extensive practice chipping and putting greens and standard practice bunkers, provides excellent facilities to warm-up before any round. The clubhouse restaurant serves both Asian and Western cuisine, albeit at high prices. The seaside setting is an ideal place to host outdoor events and enjoy the delightful natural scenery with fresh air and cooling sea breezes.

FLC Quy Nhon Golf Links offers 36-holes of championship golf that includes the Nicklaus designed Ocean Course, and the Schmidt Curley designed Mountain Course;. Each offers its style and challenges.
