Day 11: - Siem Reap – Ankgor temples – cycling ~ 30 km
Today, after breakfast, we will ride our bicycle to the temples complex. First stop at the jungle temple of Ta Prohm. It has been largely consumed by the jungle and as you will climb through the dilapidated stone structures you will see many giant trees growing out of the top of the temple itself. At every turn you will expect to see Indiana Jones or Lara Croft step out from behind a fallen pillar. Afterwards, we will continue to bike through the Victory gate to the royal city of Angkor Thom. Our visit will begin with the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of Leper King. Then, we will cycle north to the complex to visit the temple of Preah Khan, a labyrinth of pavilions, halls and chapels in a vast area encloses by four walls, before having lunch in a local restaurant around the temple. In the afternoon, we will cycle south through Angkor Thom to visit the temple of Bayon, a pyramid temple decorated by about 200 gigantic carved heads. Then we will continue to the complex of Angkor Wat, the largest and most impressive of all the temples. This morning, after breakfast, we will cycle to Angkor and then continue 20 km north through the countryside to Banteay Srei temple – the Citadel of women, decorated with superbly intricate reliefs of male and female divinities. On the way we will cycle through the picturesque countryside and will pass over some small villages. It is a nice way to learn how local people run their daily life. We will have lunch at a local restaurant near the temple. On the way back, we will stop at the Cambodian Landmine museum and Rehabilitation Centre which promotes mine awareness and people.
