Viet Yen is a rural district of Bac Giang Province in the Northeast region of Vietnam. The district borders on the south with Bac Ninh Province; on the west with Hiep Hoa District; on the east with Yen Dung District; and on the north with Tan Yen District and Bac Giang City.
The best time to visit Viet Yen Bac Giang is when there is a festival in Tho Ha village, Van Ha Commune, about 50km northeast of Hanoi. Here, there are many typical village cultural examples of the North with communal houses, temples, pagodas and festivals.
The festival is held over three days, from the 20th to the 22nd of the first lunar month. The major day of the festival falls on the 21st. The festival with its procession is held once every three years so it is eagerly awaited by all of the villagers.
On festival days the villagers practice a very special custom. All families receive and give a warm reception to visitors to the festival because they believe the more visitors that visit their house the luckier the family will be.
