Day 1: Lao Cai – Bac Ha. ~75 km, ~2 h.
We propose to ride directly to Bac Ha on a sealed mountainous road with many curves. It is only 2 hours riding, thus we have time to stop a lot: go walking, visiting the ethnic village of Ban Pho to meet H’mong women union, etc. or depending on your date go to ethnic market (Can Cau on Saturday morning, Bac Ha on Sunday).Night in Hotel.
Day 2: Bac Ha – Luc Yen – Vu Linh. ~180 km, ~6 h.
We start the day by strolling around Bac Ha to meet with many ethnic villages in this area. We then move towards the lake Thac Ba. From Bac Ha to Luc Yen, the road is easy and sealed all the way. After Luc Yen, we take a small dirt track bordered by palm trees, in the middle of the karsts. Ride to Vu Linh in about 2 hours around the lake on a small road lined by palm trees and scenic mountain views. Finally, we arrive at Vu Linh, a traditional village of Dao where we sleep in the family of our friends. Honestly, the welcome is exceptional.
Day 3: Vu Linh – Na Khan. ~210 km, ~10 h.
You ride from Vu Linh to Na Khan through Thai Nguyen (over 200 km). In fact, the road is sealed all the way until Bac Kan. However, the last part from Bac Kan to Na Khan is wild and a little bumpy. Na Khan is a Tay village, lost in the middle of the primitive forest. Mr. Lo, chief of the village will welcome us to his house.Golden Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - Bac Ha & Northeast 8 Days Motorbiking by Honda CRF250L dual enduro.
Day 4: Na Khan – Ba Be. ~50 km, ~2 h.
A short ride from Na Khan to Ba Be on a bumpy road. Then have lunch at our captain’s house (Mr. Dang, we call him Zi Dang). Easy boating on the lake and river. Go to the market (if it is the day you arrive). Stop at a waterfall, beautiful swim, etc. Ong pirate, the chief of Dau Dang waterfall where we enjoy dinner. Down the waterfall, we could visit the village and a small school (only a few pupils during the summer). We propose to stay in the stilt house of forest guards.
Day 5: Ba Be – Quang Hoa. ~170 km, ~8 h.
Cross Ba Be lake to come back to our captain’s house. Beautiful ride up to Cao Bang province. There are a few passes from where you can dominate the area. The road is easy but there are many curves. While riding we can stop a lot. Altogether, with stops for drinks and food, it should be an 8-hour journey. Then ride 1 more hour to reach the beautiful village of Quang Hoa, in the middle of a mountain cirque. This is the territory of Nung An people. Spend the night at our friend’s house.
Day 6: Quang Hoa (options). ~100 km, ~2 h (or ~30 km, ~1 h).
Option 1Having obtained permission from the border police, we make our way through spectacular scenery to Vietnam’s most impressive waterfalls. Weather permitting we can swim right up to where the 50 m high falls hit the river.Option 2In fact, Na Tau is a completely unknown area that we propose to discover it by raft and motorbike. Rivers and waterfalls everywhere are extremely beautiful and wild. In addition, it is only 15 km from Quang Hoa.Golden Trail Travel Motorbike Adventures - Bac Ha & Northeast 8 Days Motorbiking by Honda XR250 dual enduro
Day 7: Quang Hoa – Mau Son. ~180 km, ~6 h.
Ride from Quang Hoa to Lang Son. Continue driving toward the border from Lang Son to Mau Son. Mau Son is 30 km away from Lang Son, 1.541m above sea level. Quite cool in the evening! Night in the guest-house of Mau Son hill station “Resort”.
Day 8: Mau Son – Hanoi. ~180 km, ~4 h.
End of Bac Ha & Northeast 8 Days Motorbiking.Promenade around Mau Son in the morning. Then ride down to Lang Son to have lunch. In fact, the road is asphalted all the way and it takes 3 and a half hours to ride back to Hanoi. We arrive in Hanoi between 3 and 4pm, before rush hours
